ok so the LIM lifts off of the 3 studs remaining i assume? This thing aint budging an inch. I don't exactly know where to get at it and pry it up a bit. I'm kinda lost here, this thing feels like its on there good, but i'm already this far so any ideas on how to get this thing off of there?
ok i am sorry for not seeing this earlier i already did the roller tip rockers. but not to **** in your cheerios i had a whopping 5.6hp to the rear tires. you see a valve train works together. the only reason for thaose rockers s if you had also roller lifters and a high lift cam. and i had to go through the procedure to install them i am a technician by the way. well in about 2-3000 miles later i had a real bad rattle because they had to be torqued again. they are really not worth the trouble. and as for your lim situation it is part of the head assembly so the valve covers hold it by the outter lip. you need th remove the valve covers first in order to remove the lim.i just did my engine swap a week ago so i just experienced it all. up to you but if you need more help email me at camarouti9407@yahoo.com
no i got all of the nuts off the studs, the thing just doesnt want to budge upwards at all. And btw 8 hp at the crank is good for the $ imo, just remember i started this whole project based on having to replace my valve cover gaskets. Since then i've decided to add roller rockers, chrome valve covers, and replace the LIM gaskets as well so i have some peace of mind for the future... this isn't all about HP.
6rwhp is about 8hp at the crank, or 5%, that's pretty good for just a .1 increase in ratio. That's probably more than an intake or a little less than a cat-back and you'll pay 2-3 times as much for those.
The 4 corners should be studs with nuts, did you miss one? It will be stuck on there from the RTV, just get a screwdriver or something through the bead along the front and pry. Don't pry on the angle part against the head because you could mar the gasket surface.

ok, i'm officially stumped. I have ALL the bolts out and all the nuts off of the studs. It will not budge! there is no place to pry! My last thought is that there is a metal connector where the thermostat is that goes into the LIM and looks like it is connected to the block. Is it possible that this is holding it down? I thought all I had to do was disconnect the hose running to that thing but maybe im wrong. Here is a pic of what i'm talking about.
The LIM is stuck on there with RTV. I didn't pull the thermostat neck off mine. Can't recall if I pried under that or the heater pipe. Yeah all you have to do is disconnect the rubber hose on the end. Make sure to pry close to the base. Or drive a screwdriver in at the block deck. Just watch you don't damage the cam sensor.
Oh yeah and on that EGR flange. That almost happened to me. I started to mount my EGR pedastal and the bolt got real tight. Turns out there was welding flash in the threads, if I'd have kept turning I'm sure the head would have twisted off just like that. I backed it out and then ran a tap down to chase out the threads. Also I had to enlarge the holes on the pedastal because the alignment of the holes did not match the flange on the headers. Damn Pacesetter quality.
Anyway you should be able to get that out with a stud extractor.
dude im bout to give up, i can't get this thing off...
i think i know where it needs to be pried at... probably where there is a black gel like substance protruding, but i can't get a good angle on it, and there is no one place to get a good grip on it. Even if i did somehow pry it, i can't imagine it moving very much cuz there's still 3 studs holding it in place!!! I'm really frustrated. I've already taken out all the bolts and disconnected the hoses and thermostat so theres no turning back now. Where is the exact place you pried this thing zahn? do you remember?? The rockers will be coming in a few days and i want this thing outa there by then.
IIRC we pried from the passenger side, under the thermo neck and with the tip on the block or maybe the ps bracket. I really don't remember having any trouble getting it off. Once you break the RTV loose at the front and back it just lifts right off.
I looked through pics of when I had mine apart and it appears that we must have taken one of the studs out? I only count 3 here, so the passenger front corner must be a bolt or else it was a stud with a flange or something?
yes zahn, that bolt came out for me also. I will try prying at it again later today, I appreciate the patience. I'm probably making this harder than it should be.
Good news is that i got the ****in thing pried loose in the front...
the bad news is that i broke off that metal thing going to the thermostat, and i mean i shattered it. I don't know what i'm gonna do =( Even if i got the exact part to replace it i don't know how i would get it in there cuz there is still an inch or two of it inside there.
Holy hell that thing must have been JB welded on there. Sorry for your luck. That piece is threaded into the LIM right? Not sure how you could get the rest out of there. Is there enough sticking out to grab ahold of?
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
