your locasl machine shop can drill it out and retap it withn a helicoil and you can get a new piece. its just the hose that gois through the tb.
cant wait till my lt1 and nitrous.

this is good news, do you really think they can get the old one out and retap it so i can put a new piece in?

they definately can it should only be like 10-20 bucks, my guy fixed my egr when i broke one of the bolts he took it out with ease and only charged me 10. but i did an egr delete so i cut the tube that is mounted to the manifolds from the solonoid pack and had him tap out threads in the tube to put a plug and welded it up.all in all a machine shop can get anything out. ok i went to my car and i know what you did. no worry no needd for a new lim. not sure if you have researched the tb bypass but if not it is where that tube comes out of your lim to the tb and from the tb to the heater core. it does not need the go through the tb and sinced you are lookin for any little bit of hp it will help th bypass this bc it makes the intake air hot anyways it is to help control emissions but who gives a s**t about emissions.so you can drill and tap it and put in a plug that has treads on one end and a hose fitting on the other end and you connect the heater hose up directly. to the lim but make sure when you do it that you zip tie the heater hose so it does not sit on the belts. hope that makes you feel better

I THINK IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER BUT CALM DOWN A SEC CUZ I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK U JUST SAID. i REALIZE I DON'T NEED THOSE 2 EXTRA TUBES GOING TO THE THROTTLE BODY HOWEVER THAT STILL DOES NOT HELP ME AS I NEED THE COOLANT TO GET TO THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD. ARE U SAYING I COULD JUST RUN A RUBBER HOSE UP THERE? IF SO HOW THE HECK WOULD I KEEP IT ON?

I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER, JUST HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING.

Wait, I Think I Get It. Your Telling Me To Have Them Retap The Hole, Then Get A Correct Fitting For The Newly Tapped Hole, Then Connect A Hose To That Fitting, Then Connect The Other Side Of That Hose To The Hose That Used To Be Attached?

Sounds Good To Me, It Will Take Some Fab Work But, Sounds Doable.

Yeah don't think I would go through getting another LIM unless you stumble across one cheap. You were probably planning on the TB coolant bypass anyway so don't worry about those connections. That pipe is for the heater core feed but as said, only reason that was a metal pipe anyway is to bend around to clear the belt. If you can thread or weld in a piece there, enough to get a new hose on, that should be all you need.

                      i'm super happy now, thanx.

I finally got that ****er off!

                      [IMG][/IMG]

on an even brighter note, i just got my comp roller rockers in from the Fed Ex man.
                      [IMG][/IMG]

i want to clean up the LIM and the runners while its out, can i just blast it with a garden hose?

whats the best way to get all that black crust off of the ports? I don't want to necisarilly port and polish the sucker, just clean it all up.

and the coolant temperature sensor sitting there, i was thinkin bout replacing it simply cuz its probably real old and i know when the car is put back together that sensor is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get at, let me know what yourl thoughts are on all of that.

                      thanx

ok iwould use a brake parts cleaner or better yet atf and a soft brush because of atfs high detergent level. that will clean it right up and as for the cts it is only about 5 bucks i would do it. also while the lim is off go ahead and look at you lifters by pulling them out with a magnet and make sure they all look ok and not scored up also you might want to look at the pushrods.you should also be able to see the cam from the valley. just something for you to think about. nothing worse than puttin it back together and having the valvetrain fall apart. i personally would have the machine shop install the rockers because they wouldnt charge much. and if you have a few bucks have them do a valvejob you know clean and inspect them you are only a few more bolts from pullin heads anyway. you can do the head gaskets as a safety factor. maybe go crazy and get a little p&p work because one of our biggest weakneses is the lack of air flow in the heads. just some stuff to think about

I use kerosine and an old toothbrush. Make sure to get all the old gasket off if any of that stuck to the LIM. You can get a mild abrasive pad for your rotary or drill.

I love this pic. If I had a dollar for every time I gave my car the finger, I could buy a new ZR1. For a novice mechanic, you are doing well. THIS is exactly how most of us learn, and exactly what this board is for. Keep up the good work.

Just to add some (small) value to this thread. I don't trust valve cover gaskets, so I always add a small bead of seal-a-gasket on there as well. Works great and adds a little insurance so you're not pulling all that sh!t off again.

thanx man, i'm really glad to hear the encouragement. This can be VERY discouraging for a first timer like myself if you have to do it a lone but all of you guys have come together and helped me out this far. I REALLY appreciate all the help, I can't tell you how much i'm learning from all of this.

CAMARO, you've brought up an interesting point..... technically speaking i'm awfully close to the heads right now. Who's thinking maybe i should pull those suckers off and have them P&P'd by a machine shop?? Would it also make sense to have them P&P the LIM runners?? Like you said, if i could replace the head gaskets as well as all the other **** i'm replacing, as long as i do it all right, my car could last for a very long time. This is however, a huge ordeal if i take the Heads off, so speak up if this is too much for a rookie like myself. I will pick up that CTS and put that in as well. Oh and what does ATF stand for? sorry but i don't know chemical lingo as well as some =)

Funk, I will make sure i get all the gasket off before putting it back on.

I'll pick up some brake cleaner, the CTS, and probably some injector O rings tomorrow morning, and then let u guys know whats goin on from that point. I had originally planned to have my friend come over in a couple days to install the rockers but if removing the heads ends up to be at all plausible, then plans will have to change.

                              thanx

normally i would not suggest a job that big for a beginner but you are doin a hell of a job already so i would do the heads. you know make sure you dont have to touch the engine again for a while.
