ya thats what i do just make sure there is no grease or oil on the surface and if you are worried get some 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper and soak it in water for about 5 min and scuff the surface with that soit will roughen it up but wont leave scratch marks

Yup, I just went over mine with the palm sander to get rid of any loose/flaking paint and then cleaned em up. You want to use something like brake cleaner that won't leave a residue.

:tup: thanx guys, now i'm really excited. I have my plenum painted black with white lettering... what do u think i should paint the valve covers?

i could do oarnge, red, or black, all with a shiny clear coat.

wow lol i just gave u pics of the plenum, be satisfied for now! :banana:

the valve covers won't get here til later this week, since i just bought them, then i will post up pics so be patient.

later on i'll post up tons of other pics when i actually install the rockers and everything else.

quick Q however, since i'm buying used valve covers i assume the gaskets will still be adhered to them. In preparation i took some of the gasket remover spray that i had bought and sprayed it on my old ones, as to practice getting the gaskets off. Well, to put it plainly i can't get those gaskets off :rant: i soaked em with the gasket spray and then i used a screwdriver to dry to get it off, but it barely got any of it off, and i certainly couldn't get it down to the bare metal where it needs to be.... anyhow any tips or anything as to how to get those dang valve cover gaskets off?

also quick update:

I cleaned out my rad overflow tank tonight, there must have been mud down in there! it took 5 refills to get that thing flowing clean....
I also cleaned the intake manifold gaskets off as best as i could, not perfect, but pretty good. I also put together the new plenum with the fuel rail and Throttle body, ect. Finally, I took some brake cleaner and a wire bristle brush and really cleaned up that LIM and the runners. I also put in the new CTS.

well thats all for now, any help on those valve cover gaskets would be very helpful!

i used a razor blade and took time. do you have an air compressor? if you do then i used an angle grinder with a yellow rol-loc disc and it will make all the surfaces look brand new without removing metal.

just to let everyone know, so u don't think i'm lazy, i'm still waiting on the pushrods before i can move along with my project, i have to say ftpp is kind of pissing me off right now, but whatever since it's still 2 months before i even consider driving my car.... i will update when they come, if not today i will be furious.

yeah dude, i can't remember what it was i ordered from them before, but it also took forever. Now technically it shipped on the 23rd of jan. from i think kentucky (they sent me an invoice)... so what are we saying here? that it takes a week and a half from the day it's shipped to go from KY to NY???

ok, so i got fed up with ftpp.net its been 2 weeks since it apparently shipped from kentucky and so i tried giving them a call on their customer support line and all i got was an answering machine!

if u guys are wondering why i haven't been posting any progress on this thread this is the reason why! i can't move on without these pushrods.

anyhow, enough was enough and i'm sick of waiting so i ordered the same pushrods off summit. needless to say they'll probably get here in like 2 days cuz summit rocks ftw. ftpp ftl....

on another note i received the "new" valve covers, they need a good clean up.

a few Q's.

1. whats the best way to clean up these valve covers? theyr'e pretty greasy and i wanna paint em.

2. whats the best way to get the valve cover gaskets off? they're on there really good and gasket spray doesn't do anything.
