wow.... i cant say enough about summit, i ordered yesterday and they got here today!!!

talk about service! ftpp still hasn't even gotten mine here, and i'm wondering whether they even sent it.....

whatever, i have the pushrods, thats the important things, and so im going to install them real soon. Once again, should i lube up both ball points on the pushrods and can i use regular motor oil for this? Any other tips for installing the pushrods and rockers? (i'm just gonna get the nut started on the rockers, i'm not going to actually adjust them yet.)

1. whats the best way to clean up these valve covers? theyr'e pretty greasy and i wanna paint em.

i would get a light assembly lube not just oil but try to put it on the lifters and the rockers because if you get too much in the pushrod oil may not flow

i have a lifter/cam lube that comp sent with the rockers arms, would that be good to lube up the rockers and upper end of the pushrods??

ok people, i need some answers soon...

1. Should i wait to put in the pushrods and rockers until i know i can have everything put back together within a day or two? (for starting purposes)

2. I was thinking about how to get the valve cover gaskets off the old valve covers... would a dremel work with a small wire wheel???

3. i think basically to lube everything up i can put regular engine oil on the lower end of the pushrods and then put the comp cam assembly lube on the valve stems, pivot balls, and the top end of the pushrod, is this correct?

btw, i just finished painting the valve covers, so pics soon to come but i need answers to these Q's. Cuz now i see that i have to get these things figured out before i can install anything.

Dremel with wire wheel should work. If not, lightly do it with something more abrasive.

so u dont think a wire wheel to the gasket would ruin the mating surface of the valve covers?

i should think it would make them nice and shiny right? :banana:

if thats the case then i will be in luck, cuz honestly i've tried gettin these gaskets out by hand with a screwdriver and whatnot and it just aint happenin.

The wire wheel isn't really that abrasive. If you look at which way the dremel spins and how the wires are "curved", you'll see what I'm talking about. As for installing the pushrods and rockers... Unless you're doing something else in/on the heads, I see no reason why you couldn't go ahead and install them.

You should soak the lifters in motor oil overnight prior to installing them. I would wait to put the pushrods and rockers in until you take the lifters out of the oil and install everything at once. A light assembly lube is okay to use on the cam and rockers but nothing thicker! Because as camaro9407 said you don't want to block oil from going through the pushrod. If you have to buy something get STP Oil Treatment (aka monkey snot) or equivalent. The gaskets in those valve covers are made of cork and should break apart with light abrasion, a wire wheel on a drill or dremel should work fine.

also make sure you remove the ditributor blockoff and prime the engine before startup so uyou dont mess anything up thyey make a tool you put on your drill and it will work

I will get those gaskets off asap and post some pics since they are newly painted :drool: and beautiful.

zahn, you know that i didn't get new lifters right? or are you telling me to pull out the old ones and then soak them in oil because they are probably empty right now??

My plan is to lube the lower end of the pushrods with regular oil, and then lube everything else (valve stem, pivot ball, top of push rod) with either my comp cam lube or like u said zahn that monkey oil or whatever.

i'll wait to install the lifters (if i have to take them out and soak them) pushrods, and rockers when i know i will have a few days to put this whole thing back together so it's all freshly lubed.

as soon as i get this darn bolt out of the EGR flange i can start the install :rant: but it's given me some trouble, i might try a bolt extractor.....

camaro9407 if u are referring to what i should do before i actually start my engine back up again, believe me i will have questions on that subject as soon as it's all put back together.

like it or not u guys are stuck with helping me put it back together, since ya'll helped me tear it all apart :wavey:

you have to do it as soon as you get the valvetrain put together before the lim or anything else because you cant get to it after you put on the lim. its on the top toward the back of the block

He's talking about spinning the oil pump drive to prime the engine before you start it the first time. You're already planning on lubing everything as you put it back together so it's not necessary.

that wire wheel is workin pretty good, tho it's def. a hassle holding the cover in place. I'm about half way done gettin the old gasket out... i'll work on it later today.

With all this in mind, can you give me the rundown on things i'll have to do prior to starting the car (once it's all put back together that is)
