  • 3.4 loses power at 4500...

I have a 3.4 and have just been curious as to why at about 4500 rpms the motor just basically shuts down. Everyone kids that my car is slow and that something's wrong but seriously now. I know the car is slow, it always has been, that's why I'm building a LT1 as we speak.

But I've just been curious to see if everyone else's 3.4 acts the same way. It's like the power band just jumps off a cliff...

I've owned the car for almost 4 years now. I've known that the power just dies, just never knew exactly why. Anyone who rides with me asks, why I'm not taching it out. My reply is simple "no reason to, joker just stops at 4500" lol

the only way to get any umph out of it after 4500rpm with the stock top end...is to know what I know.

Headers seem to help a bit. I used to shift around 4600 before, but with headers I make power up to about 5000. That little bit helps quite a bit though. Besides that, theres the 3400 top end swap. Basically, the intake design on the 3.4 is horrible, and the only real way to improve it is to take out the engine and change out the pistons and heads and intake. :(
