so whats the highest rev you should shift at on each spring rate type? i.e stock...100's 105's...?

i would say stock would be 6k max not sure about 100s but i would say 105s would be good for anything around 6500-7000

raising your rev limiter is dumb unless you have a cam OR rockers plus the springs.

those extra 500-600 rpms are only going to hurt a stock motor.

Well thats what I mean, without trying to hijack this thread lol...I'm doing 1.8 roller rockers on the stock springs, and Im trying to justify doing a dyno tune after to raise up those rpms....so when this question was asked I to was wondering what I should prolly have my shift points set to...and if a dyno tune is really worth 500$ :(....or if something like HPT would be a better choice...

hp tuners would be fine, and if you can find some one with a wideband it would be almost exsactly the same.

with higher ratio rockers like 1.8 most of the power you gain is going to be in the upper range, so i would raise it to about 6500 and shift a little before that.

but if you are not getting new springs as well. then i would keep it the same

not even a few rpm...and its an auto...so the shift pts would be set...what would be tell tale signs of damage that might start occuring? Like if you raised the shift points how would you know damage is going to be done, before its done?

No, it can cause MAJOR engine damage.
7k revs are too high for a pushrod motor with 105's

I wasn't saying 7k on my car. I was asking if it can be done on an automatic without hurting it if it was set lower. My car shifts fine as it is. It's a daily driver I'm just enjoying.

valve float is a function of mass on the valve side, including rocker arms. using a zzp or intense head with 1.90" valves is automatically going to lower the valve float limit with stock springs...they need much heavier springs just to keep the same rpm. pushrods don't have much effect on rpm - always get strong pushrods. hydraulic lifters tend to pump up at some point.

our motors and tranny were designed for low rpm torque. that's why we have such small ports.

I think the question was more about whose shifting and running there engine that high...rather then what the limiter is set at....I mean technically you can have the limiter set at 10,000...if your shifting at 6000 it doesnt make a difference unless you miss a shift or something.... then your screwed, correct me if Im wrong...
