Re: 3400 top end swap questions

it would behoove you to change the pistons, theres no sense relying on a tune when the only viable option is MS. just change the pistons. put a small computer friendly cam in it, little bit bigger injectors and enjoy it. I went balls to the wall with mine and i'm starting to regret it already.

getting a monstrous cam, that has no cam sensor provision, possibly too much lift.

call up comp, crane, crowler, lunati,..tell them what you have and what you want. they should either have a CC cam or can grind one for you. I got the crane 253941 cam, with the 3400 rockers(1.6:1) it has .484 intake/.512 exhaust lift.

The 262 re-grind is available from Delta Camshafts for $100 including new lifters.

Bubba, you didn't need a dual pattern with the 3x00 heads, but providing you have the spring clearance - that thing should sound sweet.

One other thing I'm confused about, the heads and cam bible says a diy cam job is 700 dollers, but I find cams for less than 300, is there some other expences I missed? And what should I do to the heads before I put them in? (as in valve sprigs, retainers ect?)

Seriously, Google "Delta Camshafts" and give them a call. The 260 grind will give you .469" lift and 212* duration with 1.6 3x00 rockers and is ECM friendly.

Stock spings bind that high. I have an extra set of heads I can throw a valve/spring on and measure the coil bind with the stockers. Even the LS6 springs only hava a coil bind of .5613" (max lift of .525").

My 3500 heads have 2000 miles on them, but the stock springs don't have enough lift for what I'm doing - and float the valves around 5500-6000rpm (my redline is going to be 7200). All of the heads I supply have less than 40k. We get them from wrecked cars.
