  • Knock Knock!

So, there's a weird sound coming from my motor. I took a sound clip of it and want your guys opinion. My uncle thinks it's a cracked piston skirt. At first I thought it was a rod, but my oil pressure is perfectly fine? Is it possible to still have good oil pressure if it's a rod? I also noticed some white smoke from the exhaust. I put abit of wax on the tailpipes before I started it (was cleaning the car, and figured I'd take the clip), and there was water up in there, so I don't know if that's what it is, or if it's coolant. She's been sitting for almost a week now, and I need to get her fixed.

Did you listen to it? It gets louder as I rev it. And the Fram filter is only in there cuz my dad grabbed one lying around our buddies shop when we put the cam in. I usually use the K&N Gold or w/e it's called.

what kind of cam. whats the lift and duration it could be opening the valves too far or for too long and that would be why it goes avay as you rev because the timing changes.
cant wait till my lt1 and nitrous.

Did you check the balancer on the front of the motor? I just replaced one in a Buick FWD 3800 where the rubber split that was holing the outer ring to the hub. It sounded allot like a rod.

Thank you!! It's the GT2 cam; .507 lift intake and exhaust, 111LSA, stock tune and internals (except timing chain and tensioner).

It could be a lifter I have had it the last two winters. Just change your oil with a 5w 30 and lucas oil stabilizer. This has fixed mine both times. Is the oil you have now a 10w 30 ? and many miles old is it. Also does the sound go away when warmed up or when your drive it down the road alittle?

ask around. have you flowbenched those heads. ls1s cant even use a 500 because its stupid they reach max flow at 450. i know your heads do not flow as good as ls1 heads. that may verywell be your problem. your stock cam is like a 200-250 i believe so the engine was built around that and now you are opening up the velves twice as deep and they probably are hitting the pistons.
cant wait till my lt1 and nitrous.

LS1s stock cam has a .496 lift from 98-02, and less in newer years but the ls6 has .525 lift, and those heads max flow a 550. for the 3800 the 258/255 is the correct number, and thats NOT valve lift thats lobe lift, the stock valve lift is .413/.408, the stock heads should NOT have a problem with that cam at all. The problem is most likely a rod or harmonic balancer. The easiest way to tell is to grab the belt(engine off of coarse) and try to move it either way. If it moves its the balancer, if not its a rod.
