Re: Whare did you find 3400 parts?

GM offers a cam (262 grind), and Delta sells them for the 3.4's.

Swpping the FWD motor is not that complicated, but can be costly. You need to start with a tubular k-member, oil filter relocation and custom motor mount. The tubular k will make it so the starter can stay where it is.

Driver_10 at FTV6 pulled off the 3400 swap, and is very similar to the process of transplanting a 3500 into the same body.

Looks like I may be doing a 3x00 swap in a 4th gen before I get around to mine, lol.

Megasquirt is simpler than people make it out to be. Splice the injector and ICM wires into the unit, and junction into all the sensors for it to read them (and the stock ECM as well). This is called "piggyback" and will allow you to change the timing and fuel perameters from a laptop while maintaining all the EGR, trans, speedo etc through the stock ECM.

my whole cam setup (custom grind from comp cams) ran me around 250 with lifters shipped..or thereabouts. GM wanted like 320.00 for the stock 3.4L Cam...

You can get a lot of parts from your local junkyard if you go with the 3400 stuff.

basically just go and look for any 2000+ Grand Am GT's and pull:
          heads
          intake (upper and lower)
          TB
          valve covers
          injectors

i think you are safe to use the fuel rail from the 2000 3400 as well...if its got a return and a send you are fine. dont think they did that till 2005 or something...

as for the pushrods, well...thats a little up in the air. lots of people are having problems with the 3400 pushrods - im not sure what length are in my car or if they were custom - tehre was no "custom pushrod" line item or even another "pushrod" set line item on the repair bill when i picked teh car up at the mechanics - yet she runs. as far as i know the set of pushrods in the car are the same set i started with.

Re: Whare did you find 3400 parts?

Delta sells re-grinds for $89, and $40 for lifters. They can go up to a 260 using the stock cam.

They quoted me $125 for a completely custom grind with lifters (any profile I wanted).

Russ, someone told me about a grind that GM offers (supposedly off-road, but is the 260 advertised .440/.440), they paid $125. Wonder how true it is with a $320 stock cam?

The GMPP 12364059 cam (same specs as Crane H-260) is listed for $150 on gmpartsdirect, that's without lifters. But it's not .440/.440 like Comp's, it's 204/216 .427"/.454" 112°

It's probably listed as "off-road" because it doesn't have the cam sensor lobe for the 3.4 SFI.

Re: Whare did you find 3400 parts?

$320 was for a full set of new lifters + cam.

i dont know how much things would have been if i just got the cam or just lifters - at the time i needed both. comp only charged me a couple hundred (cheaper) so i went with them and a custom grind.

the Ecm didn't like it at all.

funk - my cam is more aggressive than the one you listed, and it came with the cam sensor tab. so im running SFI.
