Ok I'm looking to do both cams and heads so Im going to a few shops today to get final prices on things and ultimatley make my decision in the next few days. Is it worth it to do both the cams and heads at the same time? Like will this save me money...or can I do them one at a time...Im thinking that if I do them seperatly I should do the heads first, since they are going to come with springs, retainers, valves, etc. that Im going to need to replace if I get a cam. Am I thinking right here?

If you're going to do only one at a time, I would recommend the heads (w/ upgraded valvetrain) first. That way when you get the cam installed, you shouldn't have to worry about valvetrain woes when mashing the loud pedal.

you'll save money by doing both at the same time. That way they don't have to tear off your upper end twice, just once. Don't have to get the gaskets 2x, don't have to try and not lose things 2x, try and get everything lined up right 2x, etc. It's just easier to do it all at once, trust me.

you might as well do the heads at the same time.. it saves you from buying two pairs of valve cover gaskets, fooling with the push rods again, etc

            Re: cam and heads

so when they do the cam install how much more work has to be done to do the heads since they are already torn into the engine? Should I be looking at some sort of a discount price cause the labour is less? I got a quote of 600$ to do a cam installation Im gunna hopefully drive out to talk to the guy more about it 2morrow, just curious as to how much more I should probably be expecting to pay when I add head installation in.

(BTW I read the head and cam installation process in one of the threads, but since Im not that mechanically inclined Im still unsure so thats why Im asking)

If your going to do the cam, do the heads at the same time. In order to replace the cam you have to remove the valve covers, rockers, pushrods anyway so all thats left is to unbolt the headers and the head bolts. Your spend twice as much to do it separately.

its not a bad time to port and polish your intake manifold since your going to have it off anyways

They shouldn't charge you anything extra. If they do, it shouldn't be much; all they have to do is take off the heads and exhaust manifolds, everything else is out of the way already.

Go heads and cam if you want. Just remember though, it's pointless to have all that power and not be able to get it to the ground :(

your car will sound fast, but in reality, be very slow for what all is done to it
