For a N/A car, whats the max we cant put compression at, and how much of a difference would you notice...If and when I do go ahead with the cam/heads I'm going to have the guy mill the heads down to up compression...just wondering what the max is, especially for a DD, and what are the pros and cons of doing this.

Re: compression
There are too many things that affect how much compression you can run, like cam size and head flow. I wouldn't go up over half a point over stock for a DD. Compression is the basis of power in an engine, but with Cast iron heads and today's gas, you can find detonation very quickly. The higher compression the more timing your going to have to pull out.sigpic

Re: compression
well this is most likely going to be with the abbott racing stage 2 heads and their N/A cam...I want to mill the heads down for added compression...this will all be topped off with a dyno tune...when upping the compression do I have to worry about reinforcing anything other then what already needs to be done with the cam...how will this effect my gas? and I shouldnt be too worried about detonation if it is tuned correctly?

Ask Abbott what compression they recommend. A good tune can't compensate for TOO much compression.sigpic

Re: compression
what octane gas do you have around you? That will be the first thing to figure out as you are going to need high octane for a high compression engine.

91 octane around here

Re: compression
id talk to abbott and invest in some ARP head bolts. raising the compression will definately make you want to run premium gas to try to keep down the possibility of detonation.
i think the stroker kits bump you up to like 10.5:1 compression so... you might wanna just look into one of those.

Re: compression
stroker is a lot more work then just milling down the heads Im about to put in...

FWIW my engine that I am getting built up right now has 10.28:1 pistons and I also went with thinner MLS cometic gaskets to bump the compression up even more. Abbott stage 3 heads will be mated up to the engine. I have 93 octane around here and will be running nitrous :)

you also need to think about valve cleanarnce and all that jazz... with a bigger cam your valves are gonna open even more than they already do... with the lower profile of the head and all you might run into some of those issues.

so I would have to change the pistons when upin the compression?
