I am reading everything I can find about rebuilds, Cams, pushrods, springs, valves.. blah.. i went to Z performance, didnt find anything about camaros there, I went to Comp cams. and there are alot of numbers. lol

So here is what I am doing. I am taking the motor out of my car, and I want to replace the bearings if I have to on the crank, check for piston wear and replace if needed, rings of course.

Cams get wear, so If I am looking to replace it so I dont have problems later, what should i look at? Im not worries about power, If I wanted that I would drop the money in a V8, but spending an extra couple bucks for a few HPs wouldnt hurt anyways.

    Springs?
    lift rods?
    rockers?
if I am looking for a stock motor with MINOR upgrades, what am I looking for? web site links?

What about valves? should I keep my stock valves? Im not porting the heads, I kow I need to clean the carbon off of everything, but I just plan on sending it to a shop and have them do a ultra sound on it to get rid of the junk..

Lend me your thoughts... I need to start getting some of the things and i need to research first.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: rebuild confusion

when you go to vendor sites, remember that grand prix cars have the same engine in them as ours. ;) hence zzperformance, you look under the grand prix section.

There intakes, tb, and exhaust are different. Also the boosted l67 cars have different pistons and rods. The blocks are the same.

So when looking for rebuild items, you can use any of those grand prix cams, engine internals, and such.

ok, so what am I looking for as in a stock cam replacment? Zperformance a good place to get it from? bearings are the same? but you say the pistons are different?

      whats a boosted I67 car?

as far as Grand prix internals. I can use anything but the intake ( upper) portion of the engine for my 3.8L camaro

        Re: rebuild confusion

any of their cams will work with your car. However tuning becomes an issue when you get into cams. The GT1 is one you can use with a stock tune.

        bearings all the same

pistons/rods in L67 cars (supercharged grand prix's) are different compression and the rods are different shape, that is all.

But yea most of their mods are compatible with our cars.

ZZperformance is 10 minutes from my house. very good place to order stuff.

        www.gvperformance.com
        www.intense-racing.com
        www.3800performance.com
        www.ftpp.net

all good places for parts for our cars.

zzperformance prices dont look that bad either. shame we cant use the valves.. lol thanks for the links, i'll read those and see what I can go with, I think having 3800performance showing a camaro will take most of the guess work out of it. thanks man!

The 3800 V6 camaro for 98-02 are the same excluding the intake mani because the neck is bent a lil for diff air box right? I looked at the specs on this site and the numbers are the same from 97-02
          Correct?

can't use valves? what are you meaning here? we have the same NA heads so valves wouldn't be any different there. The L67 heads have the injector ports in them instead of the lower manifold, but the head design is still the same.

yes 3.8 fbody is the same other than the 99+ are drive by wire tb and straight tb/intake manifold.

Also 00+ cars got different injector connections and tubular exhaust manifolds
