  • Not sure which springs to get..

Ok so I have the Abbott N/A cam.. the 210/220 .512/.512 112 one.

My whole situation is, after spending all of this money I don't have much to spend right now.. (I got heads/cam/both intakes etc because I am p&p'ing them for a project).

I know the best thing to do would be to replace pretty much everything in the heads, including lifters/pushrods. But then I wouldn't be able to install any of this until later this summer. Only problem with that is, I am going to do it in my schools shop because we have all/most of the tools necessary.

I wasn't sure what springs to go with.. Abbott says 130#, but I've heard that's only necessary if you want to raise your rev limiter to 7k, and if you had 130's, you would need a double timing chain.. and to do that, you have to mill the oil pump correct? I am not planning on raising the rev limiter.

I don't really want to get into all of that because it sounds like a bigger pain in the *** then it already is. With 105's I heard that the stock timing setup will be fine (I would replace the chain/tensioner with that install kit obviously), but I remember some people had 105's snapping.

Would the stock lifters/rods be alright? I am definately changing the springs/seals/locks/retainers because I have to, but am I missing anything? I will probably end up getting new valves too.

This is my DD so I want to get it figured out as much as possible because I want to have as little hangups as I can possible.

Man, if your gunna do it do it right, I had to put mine off till probably the end of this summer for similar reasons...get the 130's so you can enjoy the power your producing...your powerband is going to go up so you need to raise that limiter for full benefits...I'd advise getting the double roller timing chain if your doing heads and cam, why take chances...imo its better to wait and do it a bit later and get it all done right, then to rush it, and have things go wrong...then your stuck with down times, broken parts, and a ton of headaches...

I thought we made the most power in the 5k's? I thought it was unnecessary to raise past the stock limit because we make less power? How much higher does the abbott cam raise the powerband?

I'm running 90# LS6 springs; Had them for 20k miles since the cam install, no issues. The problem with the Comp 105's seems to be with a particular batch they put out...you may want to call/email them and ask if they've sorted out the issue. My rev. limiter is at 6300, since the ARHNA cam is more of a 2500-5000 RPM cam.

Stock lifters and rods are ok, so long as they go back in at the same place they came out of

Yeah ok so the powerband stays about the same..

            I might even do 90#'s

^again, with the comp 105's...all the ones that broke were ordered by people within a month of eachother, but no other complaints have surfaced as far as people who ordered them years before, or since that incident about a year ago.

I can run a single chain with the 105#'s correct?

Re: Not sure which springs to get..

you'll already be tearing into the motor, so it would be much more time-efficient to get the double in there while the motor's apart, rather than driving around for a bit on the stock chain and tensioner, hoping it'll be ok

As far as milling down the oil pump.. is that true? Or do you just have to remove the balancer or whatever?

for the ARHNA cam, there's no milling involved

to put the double roller timing chain on there is milling required...

                          no milling.

Get a double roller timing chain and then remove your balance shaft. free up some power and lose some weight. :)

I would do at least 105s and nothing lower when getting a cam in there. My heads have 130# springs in them

Now I'm confused.. which is it..

Some people say you need to mill the pump, some say to remove the shaft, others say you don't need to do anything. wtf.

Balance shaft is there for a reason no? otherwise why would it be in there in the first place?
