  • Self P&P Jobs, look here

For those of you who did your own basic P&P to your heads and intake manifolds (gasket match and then polish), how much of a difference did you see? Someone keeps saying there's a very minimal difference (1.8CFM, IIRC), while other say it should help alot. What have you guys seen, performance wise, from P&P'ing your heads? I have all the bolt-ons and a GT2 cam and was looking into doing it, but if there's that slight of a difference, why bother? Put a few days of work into them, just to see maybe 2rwhp? I plan on getting a dyno-tune later, and am sure that will wake it up abit more, but I'm still skeptical....

Well with a cam it will be better than stock because of the higher lift etc.

I'm still in the middle of doing mine but even if I get little gains, IMO it's worth the experience.

Worth the experience yes, but I'm trying to cram my motor build into my schedule, with full-time school, 2 jobs, side jobs, and a g/f, there's not much room for more work :(.

i know what you mean man g/f, finish the race care, fix the river toy, fix my car, finish my other car, and work plus we just added on to our shop and we are trying to reorganize everything.

hell, my girlfriend complains about me researching and learning about this stuff all the time. I just wonder how she'll do when I start to install everything.

lmao, **** she doesn't even know what a ratchet is. She couldn't figure out how to use it either. I dunno... Shes smart but definitely not in the mechanics area.

I'll be getting mine on relatively soon but I won't be able to tell you the gain from the P&P because I'm bumping up the compression ratio as well. Looking in the ports when stock, I can see where there could be decent flow gains by taking out imperfections and roughness.

Yeah there are alot of things that just randomly stick out of the casting and would mess up the airflow.

Especially in the intakes. It looked like "splattered" aluminum in some places.

Anyone ever heard of a FLOW BENCH? They are used to FLOW ports on cylinder heads and can tell you exactly how much air flow you picked up........OR DIDN'T. Grind in the wrong place or too much in the right place and your flow numbers can go the wrong way. Don't forget to have a 3 angle valve job done you can pick up 7 CFM or more just from that. 7 CFM is enough to feel with the *** dyno.

OK, valve job is being done. Should I go ahead and P&P, or not worry about it?

You should have done any porting before the valve job was done. Now, if you hit one of the seats while porting, the valve job needs to be redone on any seats that get nicked.

yeah i wouldnt tocuh those heads after the valve job has been done, unless you want to kiss that valve job good bye

I'm going to ask the machine shop doing my heads to do some small porting on them. Just got finished porting the LIM, gotta polish it, and then polish the upper (already gasket matched).
