  • Valve Spring Compressor Tool

Alright so I'm finally digging into my engine. Right now I'm just at the valve covers but I'll be changing the valve springs when I do the rockers. When I was removing.. or bending.. that damned passenger side lift bracket I was looking and it really didn't seem like I'm gonna have room for my valve spring compressor tool. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku That's the same type I bought.. I never thought of it before but it looks like it'd be a pain in the *** if even at all possible to use that. Just wondering if anyone has actually used one like this with the heads still on without problems or should I look for another tool? If I'm gonna need another tool, which tool has specifically been handy with our engine bay?

I don't see what the big deal is about that bracket. Mine came off easily?!? From underneath with a ratchet, I broke it loose and they came right off.

I used on to do a spring on a full bolt on, LS1 T/A. u just gotta shove something rubber in the intake or exaust(depending on what valve) to make sure it don't drop

Air compressor and fitting for the spark plug hole is what most people do to keep the valve from dropping, thats what I'll be doing.

The tool you bought will prolly work, just be ready to make some slight modifications to it to allow for some clearance. as for keeping the vavles from dropping, you can get a peice of nylon rope, pull the plug out, and feed a coule feet worth into the cylinder. its cheap and very effective.

I hope the nylon works, because I might have to use it in some plug areas where it is a tight fit to use the compressor fitting. Thanks for the info.

The nylon rope trick might be more reliable than my cylinder compression kit I bought. Yeah I just went out to harbor freight.. apparently when I was there last week they weren't stocked with anything. Thanks, even though this turned into someone elses thread lol.
