  • L36-L67 comparisons

I'm doing a non camaro build and i was refered to a few on here to the Gen II 3800 from a gtp. From my research i've noticed that the L67 block was modified to run at a lower compression. I was just wondering if anyone knew if headers from a 3.8l(L36) camaro would bolt up to the L67? Or could I possibly put the SC intake from a L67 onto the L36 with stock heads? I'm thinking it would be easier to do RWD that way.

the blocks between the two engines is the same. it has the same part number. the heads are the same as well, except for the injector bosses in the intake runners.

so when swapping parts you need to ensure that you swap the entire top section.

also the cranks are the same as well, but the pistons and rods are different.

I believe the exhaust manifolds (headers persay) bolt up identically, but if you're going thru the trouble, might as well get aftermarket exhaust starting with new headers.

But as Majour said, if you use the LIM from a GTP, you have to use the GTP heads as well.

depending on clearance, the oil filter adaptor may need to be changed also

so is it the pistons that cause the higher compression ratio then? and if the block is the same would I really gain anything from switching the top end over to an L36 from a camaro? i'm just trying to figure out if they detuned the L67 for the SC and if I would get better than the stock 240hp on the L36 block.

if you kept the gtp intakes, the throttle body would be in/facing the firewall when set up for rwd. Switching over to the f-bod intake/heads lets you keep the stronger gtp rotating assembly but have the tb up front, begging for a turbo.

side note: I see this moving to tech forum soon

well its going in an s10 so clearance with the firewall isn't going to be a problem like in a camaro. and the whole point in wanting to use the L67 is for the supercharger, so why would i use the bottom end from it and put the N/A top end on? That just makes no sense, even if you are a turbo guy. You could just turbo the L36 for a hell of a lot less work.

Edit: And the whole reason why i put this in the lounge is because its non-camaro related, seeing as how the L67 would never fit under our hoods/firewall.

You do know that there is more than 1 running/driving L67 powered f-body, right?

yes, with heavily modified intakes that severely restrict their performance from what i understand... I'm just stating that the rear facing TB isn't as much of a problem for me.

You understand wrong. Do a little searching around. There is plenty of info on how to make the swap you want work.

Wrong. And the rear facing TB would still be a problem on an S10.
