so this might be pretty stupid...but i am ok with being stupid if learning is involved....is a 1.9 rocker > 1.85 rocker.....or is it the same thing just rounded up? (dumb part..haha) the reason i ask is because i can find compcams pro magnums in 1.85 for lots cheaper than the pro magnums in 1.9....the 1.9s are on ZZP for $419.99...and the 1.85 are on FTPP for $298.46...hence the question. Thanks.

Re: another rocker question
rocker ratio helps provide extra lift from the cam. say you have a cam with a
.215 lift with a 1.85 rocker, your total lift would equate to .397
however, with the 1.9's it would equate to .408
does the cost outweigh the performance benefit, hassle of install (heard the 1.9's have issues), stuff like that. i personally would just go with the 1.85's
just take the cam lobe lift times the rocker ratio and see if it comes out to what you want. then determine if you think the performance benefit is worth the extra cash.

Re: another rocker question
yeah not cheap...so i know this has been asked and i know i could probably find it with a search but i am gonna ask anyway, what is the lift on a stock cam? just out of curiosity...was the .215 what it is or just an arbitrary number? and i really don't know much about this...so is .011 more lift worth it in terms of horses? i am guessing no just because of the small difference...but i have no clue. haha.

Re: another rocker question
total lift with stock cam and 1.6 rockers = .413
with 1.85 rockers = .477
with 1.9 rockers = .490
i would say the .013 difference is good for ~5hp or so
so its up to you. too bad though i just sold my 1.9 promag rocker arms for $300
and i never heard of any problems with the 1.9s. and with either the 1.85s or the 1.9s you need higher pressure valve springs anywayLast edited by Meatyshells; 05-27-2008, 11:49 PM.

Re: another rocker question
i would go with the promags, they are shaft mounted and they come with the reusable rocker bolts. here watch this video

figure if you are going to spend the money, why not go the extra little bit and get the best item you can

Re: another rocker question
i bought them from zzp, all i used was the 105 springs and the retainers. New pushrods arent needed. The 1.9 rockers were the best mod i ever did and would recommend them to anyone. For the ease of installation they are perfect for someone not willing or able to pull the engine apart for a new cam.

Re: another rocker question
well for 1xx dollars cheaper i may have to disappoint you all and go with the 1.85's but still got no money....also i saw meaty you said on ftv6 that when you installed you used a compressor and a fitting to keep the cylinder pressured...is there any other way to keep from dropping valves?

Re: another rocker question
^ yes, from what i have read and heard the valve springs need to be changed....i don't have the whole thing planned out yet but im guessing doing the 105's like meaty did...maybe 90's though if they are going to be stout enough...

Re: another rocker question
there are other ways like said, but compressing the cylinder is the best and safest.
you can put the cylinder at top dead center, and then stuff some nylon string into the cylinder for more insurance.
I personally would go with the 105 springs
