u need to turn the engine to tdc, adjust half the intake and exhaust valves, then rotate another full turn then do the other ones. Otherwise u will have valves open when they should be closed and shut when they should be open.
sorry i didnt clarify that i followed procedure and adjusted them properly each valve was fully off the cam lobe when adjusted

I tightened them the way they are supposed to be tightened look it up your self if you dont believe me.

by adjusting the rockers and taking up the extra space thats not supposed to be there im effectivly gaining valve lift back to what it was from the factory

The looser the rockers the more lift is lost from irrelivent travel ie when the rocker isnt even touching the valve or properly preloaded like it should be

      B. Tightening them won't increase power, they were built to tolerences, and unless you built the engine and did so incorrectly, they were fine where they were, the change wont make a difference.

      I haven't touched my valves and in 2nd with a t5 at 5500 I'm doing about 70.
      EXACTLY!
      i did because i can

taking up slack so the valves open as much as there supposed to

I honestly am not sure what speed im going in second at 5500 rpm im not watching the speedo its a 95 3.4 m5 with 245/60/16 i tell ya what though ill find out just for you after work lol

        Re: over adjusted valves

I have a 3.8 which tends to have a little more power.

And the valves really aren't going to make a noticeable difference, no matter how you justify it.

but its your car do what you want how you want.

            lol, wow...i will add this...

            A. If you got your 3.4 to actually pull hard to 5500, then i wanna shake your hand, mine, and most i've heard tell of, DIE off the power curve right around 4500-4600. maybe the fact that it's a manual has something to do with it, but i do know that the intake design of the 3.4 is pretty much a failsafe assurance of no high end power.

            B. i do believe that it's easier to get to the thermostat housing if the plenum is, infact, off the car, because IIRC the Tstat housing on a 3.4 is almost directly underneath the throttle body. i hate after-thought base engines

he said he ported his intake so, maybe you can straighten out that curve with more flow. Anyway lets try to be helpful. How would he un-over-adjust them (without re-doing all of them)?

                Re: over adjusted valves

i think the easiest way to straighten things out would be to pop the covers back off, and re-do the adjusting process, only this time, be sure to tighten down just a TAD less than last time, and you should be good :)

                  Re: over adjusted valves

you need to tighen them til all valve lash is eliminated and then go another 3/4 turn, you cant just keep torqin them down.

                    Re: over adjusted valves

just for sake of clarity, i believe that while tightening to rockers down, using the "spin" technique (spinning the rod with ur fingers while tightening), the point when you FIRST start to feel resistance is zero lash, go 3/4-1.5 turn past that and you should be good

the point of zero lash is when u cannot spin it with your thumb and forefinger.

apparently you are taking my script in a louder voice than it need be.
