                  Re: over adjusted valves

typical hydraulic lifter tolerance preload is between .020" and .060"

                  so thats a .040" ballpark.

to PROPERLY adjust lash, you need to rotate the crank and watch the valves move.

watch the intake valve open and close. when the exhaust valve starts to open, the intake valve will be on the backside of the cam lobe. loosen the rocker. allow it to rest for a min or 2 so the lifter can expand. then tighten the rocker while spinning the pushrod in your fingers. after you feel some resistance, give it between 1/4 and 3/4 of a turn. and thats proper lash.

rotate the crank again till the intake on the same cylinder opens, and then is nearly closed, and then adjust the exhaust valve in the same manner. repeat for every cylinder.

did i do this? no. should i have? maybe. but then again in a perfect world you shouldnt ever have to adjust lash except when you build the thing in the first place.

                    Re: over adjusted valves

I may add that you should follow this process for every cylinder. Don't assume that number one is on tdc and that you can adjust the intake on cylinders etc. That method may work with stock valvetrain, but if anything in the valve train has changed, you should follow the method above EC IO.

glad someone started this thread...i've been needing the more "detailed" info on this for a while...

quick ?* if ur lifters are loose, will they tick ALL the time the engine runs, or only after the engine reaches operating temp?

i didnt just keep torqin them if you had read my post it was done correctly i just over tightened one cylinder ooops big deal

I have posted pics of my car before ill find a link for you but it looks different now almost ready for paint

I have an assosiates degree in automotive repair and auto technoligy I know what im doing, ive just never over adjusted valves befor and just wanted to make sure no one had herd of any adverse effects of leaving them over adjusted

Tko i dont think you know much about engines at all if you think adjusting your valves incorrectly can make valves close when there supposed to be open
