  • 1996 to 2002 swap help

So i need some help i'm almost done swapping parts over from my 1996 engine to my 2002. One thing i'm not sure is the crankshaft pulley on my 1996 looks like it has an external dampener. Where as my 2002 either did not come with one or isnt supposed to have one. It doesn't look like i could swap them out. Any help would be appreciated.

First picture is of the 2002.

2nd image is of the 1996.

Images didn't come out , but I can tell you the crankshaft balancers are different. Might need a 02' and new TTY bolt.

Well, I refreshed em after i logged in and they worked for me so not sure what's wrong with them or actually when I logged in. Essentially one is a black plate outside the crank pulley and the other looks like it is inside behind the crank pulley.

If they are the same thing and ya'll think i'm an idiot i'm ok with it. First time working on an american car so while easier in some ways alot different at the same time.

if your swapping parts over to the 2002 engine, just use that dampner.

i dont know what you have as far as cam goes, ut i know the 2002's had bigger cams than the 96 did. maybe the difference in dampners has something to do with that?

            thats my guess.

96-02' have the same cam , their is no change , just he dampner and the upper intakes. You need to look in the tech data base before giving people wrong info, if you don't know a question either don't answer or look it up and answer it, wrong info is bad.

Thanks for the help, I think i should clarify a little bit more. I am putting the 02 in the car therefore if there is a damper on thier now i shouldn't have to switch right? I just wasn't sure if it came with the damper on as they look way different. If the dampener and crank pulley are one piece then i should be fine. That's why i took the pictures.

your pictures dont work, and what exactly are you trying to do?

if you have the crank from the 96 then thats the pully you want to use, if the crank is from the 2000 engine, then use the pully from that

Pretty much i'm just trying to make sure that my engine came with the damper on it. Only reason I ask is because my 1996 has an external damper and is twice as wide as the pulley on the 02 just making sure that it wasn't supposed to look like the 1996. With the damper on the outside.
