  • Newb Question, please dont hurt me

Ok, I have been doing some searching when I am not busy with work which is very little. Anyways, I have searched and cannot find an exact answer or I get multiple yes or no. I am looking into building up a 3.4 Motor for a 1994 Camaro, and wanted to throw in the 2.8 crank to destroke it for some more revs. Will it work with or without mods, and if mods is needed, what does it consist of? I'm not looking to make alot of power, I am only looking to get about 350-400whp on a Twin Turbo setup to make a nice fun car for myself and take it to an occasional drift day event.

I am not new to building up cars one bit, but this will be my very 1st fully built American car for myself. Any answers would be great, I just cant get a straight answer from anybody I know and from searching the forum.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I actually have the motor but no car. Lol! I got the motor from a 1994 Camaro in the junkyard for $100. I am still looking for a Decent Camaro chassis to put it into, but wanted to get started on the motor build first and then do up the suspension, cage, wiring, etc.......

Just because I dont want a V8 to make power:tdown: Dont need a V8 to make power, and why swap in an LS1 to be like everybody else. Thanks, but no thanks.

ssms5411, thanks man. I have already posted there, but havent gotten any answers yet.

^ I agree with you on not getting a V8( I saved enough money for a swap I had in mind) , I was going to get a LS1 or LS2 with headers, tub. K and add the lic. to my Hptuners but I was looking at my engine bay and it would just fill it all up making no room to work on it. Right now I know my I can replace just about anything in there with out jacking it up or taking off wheels to make room to change stuff out. It is so easy to work on and I have replaced just about everything on it, so I know it very well and if I want more power I turn on the nitrous.LOL

Thanks, if I wanted a V8, I wouldnt have posted on a V6 forum at all and I would have all the answer here through some friends. But I am looking at building the V6 up and see what it can do, I have a 599whp Turbo Corolla and back in the day I had a 67 Corvair I turboed as well and made 270whp which doesnt sound like alot but was plenty for what it was. And a bunch of other Toyotas I have owned with high HP, so I dont think getting power out of a V6 Camaro motor should be any different. Its whatever, but thanks again for understanding man.

I don't think de stroking a motor from 84 mm to 78 mm is going to increase the RPM band enough to make a difference. You would be better off spending your time and money fitting the FWD aluminum heads to it.

I was also planning on running the aluminum heads as well, but was just trying to figure out what to do for the bottom end. Thanks man.

why not go with a 3.8 instead? I know a guy who had a built 3.4 and only ran low 15s. 3.8 run mid 15's stock; fully built motor could be capable of 13's NA! That would also give you the option of using a 95-02 body, instead of being limited to 93-95 (unless you don't mind changing harnesses and such).

I already got a 3.4 for $100 out of the junkyard. I really am not building this to be a drag car or whatever, I am just wanting to build something different but have the power if I wanted to take it to a drift event. No straightline action for me:)

sell the 3.4 on ebay for $100 and get a 3.8. they are all around better and will probably take higher revs and more abuse than a 3.4, especially with series 3 forged internals and heads. and you'll get more power for less money even if you give the 3.4 away
