So, I am finally ready I think to start gathering the parts for my head/cam/intake work. I doubt the cam will get done this year though...maybe next winter...

I figure that this winter I want to install heads, and ported upper and lower intake manifolds.

my question is, of the work that I need to do to install the heads/intakes, what will I have to go over and redo when I go to put the cam in a year from now?
I.e. will I have to pull off the intakes to put the cam in?

also, if I just install P&P heads/intakes right now, will I need to tune?

I am probably going to put in 105# springs also, so will I need a double roller timing chain now, or just when I get the cam?

I can't afford to do everything all at once, so I figured I should do the heads/intakes first because I am going to need things like stiffer springs/retainers in order to run the cam....also, I know I have to take off the intakes to get the heads out....

    Re: Heads/intake

Most cams unless it is big you can run the Comp 105 springs and you can keep your single timing chain. I would also get ZZP steel modded retainers, locks the factory ones are fine(Comp locks are a little harder to get in. Comp 5/16" pushrods are also a good choice. When you do your heads use Viton guide seals and with ZZP steel modded retainers you'll have an extra .050 clearance.

I plan on running the abbott racing N/A cam...I was gunna get the modded retainers from zzp...I have read that I should stick with my pushrods though, as the aftermarket ones tend to bend...

If I install the heads/intakes now...and the cam later...what work will I need to redo though?

        Re: Heads/intake

The lightweight pushrods bend, I had a set of Intense lightweight pushrods which 8 out of 12 were bent or warped after running them about 5 years or so. But I was running the powerdyne and then nitrous on them, Meatyshells and I put in Comp 5/16" pushrods which are harden with the Comp 105lb springs with ZZP steel modded retainers and it was a big difference not have those warped pushrods in there. Some do say the factory pushrods are good so it would just be your choice if you wanted to swap them out, Comp has some bigger pushrods which I might try which are the .105 ones on ZZP's website. But ZZP did tell me the 3/8 pushrods are a overkill in my car and I wouldn't benifit from them and said the 5/16 would be enough.

I think that I mine as well keep my stock ones in until they get messed up...no sense in spending more money if I don't need to.
