    Re: My 3.4L Adventure.....

yeah if you've done it once, you've done it a hundred times as the saying goes. I had to take mine apart a couple times, after the first it's pretty easy.

the oil gear drive is held into the block by a clamp and a bolt. it may be hard to see the bolt because of dirt/grime buildup but it's there lol

take that off then get some pliers or vice grips and pull up on the lip of the gear drive while gently "prying" on the bottom of the lip with a flathead screwdriver.

you may have to wiggle it out but it should pop out eventually. The rubber o ring gasket is usually pretty hard and brittle so thats what you'll be replacing.

So, what exactly is the purpose of the LIM gasket going behind the pushrods ? Does this piece actually seal anything ?

I just started a R & R of the upper and lower intake gaskets and am soooo tempted to just cut it. I've done several intake gasket's on different V8's and never expected to see the pushrods going through a gasket.

Don't know the purpose, other than to keep everything all lined up. The gaskets actually say on there 'DO NOT CUT'.

Readjusting the valves isn't all that tough once you get the process down. lol, this coming from the guy who had to do it six times......

Sucks the parts stores make you buy the needed gaskets in a 'one size fits all' kit. You don't end up using over half the gaskets. Plus they don't include the correct throttle body gasket, that one you have to buy separately.....

That does suck about the gaskets. I'm glad I read your post. I've done valves on my LT1 when I was putting roller rockers on, and it's just really time consuming. It almost makes me want to do the head gaskets too ! Who knew a V6 would be harder to work on than a V8 ?

I started tearing down my engine this weekend a 94 3.4 and replaced the oil drive o ring and added a felpro distributor gasket as extra insuance. I had oil leaking on my exhaust and huge leaks on my driveway.
Just wondered if anyone knew more about the DO NOT CUT on the felpro intake gaskets. The gm gaskets i pulled off my car said CUT OUT on them. But whoever installed them, didnt cut them.

BTW my passenger side looks the same as yours does. An orangy color.

felpro #70194, it's for a 1980 camaro 305. I got the idea from a member on here "3.4 slow to go" it was a little snug going on, but it fit and seems to work great. No drips after I installed it, but I havent ran the car much since I tore it down.

ok so the rubber O ring is replaced with a new one, but where does the distributor gasket go? around the metal cap?

Yea clean the area where the oil pump drive goes really well with some brake cleaner to get it free of oil and clean the oil pump drive flange(metal cap) then slide the felpro gasket up from the bottom. It's a snug fit going over the gear, but it will go and then drop it down in. I have my engine pulled back apart again. I wonder if it would help to put a little RTV between the flange and gasket..
