dont yell at me for not searching because im only asking one question i havent seen answered anywhere else.
if I were to do a v8 swap, would the motor have to be out of an obd2 car because mine is obd2? or could you put an obd1 in it and somehow convert it or something?
you have to check with your local dmv. I know some states that test for emissions require the same year or newer engine.
really?
thats interesting.. i would have to say that my county has some pretty strict emissions laws, and i have never heard of this.
plus, with OBD2 cars they just use a scanner to pass/fail a car, OBD1 cars they do a high and low speed test with the sniffer, so im not sure how that would work as they will see from your vin number you have a obd2 port
i have no emissions testing so i dont care about that. and ok thanks
new question. kinda should prolly be in the pcm section but i dont wanna start a new thread. is it possible to have a pcm thats off an a4 car be tuned or whatever to be for an m6? if so, where or who can do this and how much ish do you think it costs?
When I lived it CT, my 96RS, 97 z24, and my 02 grand prix would get put on the rollers and they would do the idle and high speed test. All are OBDII cars. When I was registering my 69 camaro, I asked the DMV about swapping engines in my 96RS and that is what they told me. I've since moved from CT and the emissions testing/engine swap rules may have changed. In MA they just hook up to the obdII port and make sure I don't have check engine light. I'm pretty sure I would throw a flag if I one day came in there with a LT1 under the hood without re-registerring my car.

Yes, they can be. PCM for less, Texas speed or anyone with HPTuners that is willing to help you.

You can just straight up use it, for a manual car the table values in the pcm under transmission are just zeroed out since the transmission doesn't even use them. You should be able to use an a4 pcm without any problems and if you try it and see it doesn't work you can just reflash it either by hptuners or a mail order tune.

The timing tables are drastically different between the auto and manual PCM's. Other differences are the auto having torque management that pulls timing while it's shifting and manuals have 3:42 gears while auto's got 3:23 and 2:73's.
You will also have DTC's for the auto that will have to be disabled so the CHECK ENGINE light will not come on every time you drive the car.
And it may take a few weeks to get your PCM back from the mail order tune company.
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
