what no pics of all the cleanded up and painted goodies?
Man I want to and I have like 3 cameras but cant find any of them lol. I know my sister came over and borrowed one to take on vacation with her but cant find the other two??? I want to bad. Imma post some up for yall...maybe my homeboy can lemme use his lol ;)
OK so I got bored and went crazy with the camera lol. It's my birthday and although I had a full day I couldnt sleep because I took a nap during the day.
This is the stuff I got so far.
Here is the 02 sensors...hadem for a long time just never putem on, I was waiting for the rebuild.
Also here is the AC Compressor bracket which I degreased, sanded, and painted with high temp (primer, color, then clear) in Cast Aluminum then baked to cure it...such a nice finish after it is baked it really makes a difference in the depth.
Here are the main, rod, and cam bearings and brass freeze plugs...
I may take these back and get clevite 77 tri-metal bearing but I might just see how these do...I've never used them.
Also the bolts...went with ARP on the important ones.
The last is the pic of the Camshaft Position Sensor. I broke mine when breaking the cam gear bolt loose...sucker was on there and the wrench slipped. almost $50! I later found out Autozone has it for $30 if I remember right...will swapem later to get the $20 back lol.
1. Crank pulley surround and water pump pulley. sanded and painted both flat black. They look new.
2. flywheel cover...I have only degreased this part so far but I plan on sanding it tomake it prettier.
3. New oil pan. Old one was dented, scraped and just ugly in general..A lot of oil loss problems I've had in the past were due in part to an uneven oil pan flange so I just got a new one. Plus it looks nice :p
2. Rear cover...This one I degreased, sanded, and then hit the edges with the Dremel then polished them. I know nobody will ever see this but it will mae the engine look good on the stand lol. I still have to hit some places with the Scotchbrite discs as you can see.
3,4,5. Engine. I really took my time with the block. I laid lots of coats of primer, Chevy Orange, and clearcoat. I could have put it in the oven and baked it but I will just let it cure itself once I finally get it in and running.
Right now it is taped up because I dont want anything getting in there while it is just sitting in my living room. It is taking longer than expected because I keep changing my mind on what I want to do...specifically I keep buying more stuff and painting more stuff lol :P.
So thats it for now. I am currently soaking the front cover in solution, as well at another bracket, the oil pickup, and the crank pulley/balancer and some bolts. I am probably just going to ge a new pickup tube but maybe I wont have to...the one on it looks pretty good actually.
All thats left to paint is a couple more brackets. I still need to degrease the valve covers and upper and lower intake then port those. I might polish the valve covers, I might paint them...dont know yet.
I will be painting the engine bay but I still need to take off the front bumper, also I want to be finished with everything else so I can devote my full attention to the engine bay. My car is black so I will be painting it black under there.
Also the throttle body need cleaning and a few wires and hoses etc etc.
I am happy that I am waiting to paint everything instead of just throwing it back in...it will be worth it in the long run and I will only have to do it once, then it will be much more enjoyable to work on.
pics look good. I painted my engine when I put it in and I am glad I cleaned it up all as well. Just maintaining the clean look is the tricky part after you drive it awhile.

Yeah but it makes you want to clean it more when its nice and shiny dont it?
Also its easy to spot leaks.
I went up to a machine shop earlier and got quotes for the machine work.
$135 for the line boring fo the mains, starting price. Thats if they arent too bad. It was like $120 for new main caps if they are too bad.
$25 a side to deck the cylinder surface
$25 for hot tanking
$35 for hone
forgot to ask the price for a bore and hone with a torque plate. Im hoping I can just hone it because there is a real good deal on the standard size coated pistons.
up to $15 each for checking, cleaning, straightening and resizing rods but maybe they are good or only a couple out of round. I spun every single rod bearing so probably they are all out of round though.
Heads are $130/pair for hot tanking, milling, 3 angle valve job, new guides and checking of the valves. Its so tempting to get swirl polished stainless valves etc etc but I will probably get new heads later on anyways so I might as well just wait. So tempting lol.
The pistons are on backorder until 1/17 so I guess Im not in too much of a hurry for all the block machining.
I am paying high payments on some tickets every month so if it wasnt for that I would have went ahead and got forged pistons for sure and GTP rods but oh well.
BTW 97RS: I emailed 3 dealerships in Australia about the intake etc and never even received any replies...that was like 2-3 weeks ago. Where did you get yours?
If you are really serious and willing to modify your kmember or cowl then I can help you out with tracking one down. Realize it is not just a bolt on and go as it is taller than our engine bay allows...
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
need help finding a balancer and a replacement balancer bolt. im at a lost after confusing myself researching.
