I finally have some time to work on my engine build up, so I tore down the aluminum cylinder heads that I'm going to use today. The exhause ports have a good amout of carbon build up, so i was looking to soak them in my parts cleaner for a while to clean them up before porting them. I was just wondering what kind of a detergent i should use with the aluminum? I've heard to just use dish soap but is there something that would work better?

6 gallon bucket with 5 gal of Formula 88 works perfect, and it's bio-degredable. Get it at Home Depot for $7/gal. Takes about 2-3 days. Then we sandblast, machine, then soak in an alkaline bath for a short time.

Re: Cleaning cylinder heads
Do you sand blast the ports? My dad has a sandblaster in his shop so if its a good idea to do then I might try it. I wasn't planning on doing anything with the valve seats though, as they look pretty good. Thanks for the help by the way.
