it sounds like he took it out through the bottom

the only reason the haynes manual tells you to take it out of the top is for safety reasons and to prevent lawsuits on their end, because they dont want people using an engine lift to lift the car up and having it fall, etc. when they drop the engine through the bottom.

i watched a tv show where they took an ls1 out through the bottom, and i can tell you, it would be a nightmare to do otherwise

        Re: Pulling an Engine

I'm also in the middle of pulling the motor out of my camaro. I'm going out through the bottom. All I have left is to bleed/disconnet the brake lines, steering shaft, a/c lines, and hydroloc line for the clutch.

            Re: Pulling an Engine

Are there always this many people pulling their engines at the same time? I started yesterday, pretty easy so far. All I need now is a cherry picker to lift the front end up. I'm using the guide flaming chicken posted earlier, so far it's very complete and very helpful.

Hey guys, before you diconnected your front brake lines, did you fully bleed the front breaks?

no. there is no reason to.

Thanks. I just ask because it seems that break fluid would go everywhere when you pulled the lines.

                          Re: Pulling an Engine

I just did it on my buddies camaro pulled engine and tranny at once. His was an auto. I didnt take the heads off or the radiator but the intakes must come off do this first. Unbolt the torque arm and support the tranny with a jack that HAS wheels after the mount is unbolted. Cut or disconnect the y pipe then disconnect all harnesses unbolt the motor mounts and have a friend guide the tranny pull her out with a cherry picker! once the engine is halfway out you notice the exhaust manifold may or may not hit if they do just unbolt them its a lot easier now that they are accessible. However the car MUST be jacked up rather high with jackstands in the normal places.
