very carefully. i though about doing it but it seemed to much for me at the time. college budget.
you need
-engine
-trans/new bell housing
-ls1 k-member
-ls1 oil pan
-ls1 intake manifold
-ls1 steering rack
-ls1 radiator
-computer/wiring harness
helpful but not necesarry
-springs and shocks front
-gears/lsd

Re: 5.3 swap
k member has different mounts for the v6 engine than the v8.
the trans you have is a 4l60e and will work.Team NoVa

Re: 5.3 swap
its actually pretty cheap to get a ls1 k-member, i think the junk yards around here were wanting like $120Team NoVa

Re: 5.3 swap
If you can cut, measure and weld then fabing the k member should be no problem. the stock 5.3 intake is better than the ls1 intake. The only problem is you cant get it under the hood. So if you fab everything up right You could keep the stock 5.3 intake.
Id say keep your good gas milage fireturkey and when you want more power sell that 5.3 and your bird and get Z z28.
I bought a 98 Z with 70k milea for 4100. I see them all the time for under 5 g's and v6's for over $4,000. If you play your cards right you can atleast brake even.

Re: 5.3 swap
no you cant keep the 5.3 intake. go look at it, its way too tall.
and most people dont posess the proper abilities to fabricate a k member to not only hold the weight of the engine, but also hold the power thats going in.Team NoVa

Re: 5.3 swap
lol anything is possible. I know its taller. Like it say IF he or a friend has alot of experience, it can be done.
I would build a tubular k member with the mounting locations 2, 3, 4, or more inches lower. Then you would have to do th same for the trans. Anything is possible. If you can weld there is a way.Last edited by chevy3504me; 05-27-2009, 01:28 PM.

Re: 5.3 swap
both trannys are 4l60e's, the bell housing bolt pattern is different.
as for using the v6 tq converter, maybe. you have both right? i believe the input shaft should be the same between both trannys. the only difference could possibly be the bolt pattern on flywheel.Team NoVa

Re: 5.3 swap
Ok, Will the tail shaft off my v6 swap on the the other? Also will I need to buy f-body front drive accessories? And a/c setup? I'm serious about the swap, I have 2 5.3's now and need to know ALL i'll need to put the 5.3 from a 00' avalance to a 96' bird. Every little nut and bolt. :poke: I know Im a pain but I dont wana have to learn from my own mistake's if I can learn from some one else's.
(and my built 3.8 will be up for sale when it's pulled so everyone win's)
