  • My rebuild thread

So i got the motor pulled out the top last night, only took me about an hour or so. Now trying to get the trans supported so i could push the car back in the garage was a different story. I ended up putting my floor jack underneath it to support it. I will have to see about getting the short block back in when it's done but as far as my experience taking it out the top it's not that bad as far as i'm concerned. might take out the radiator and condensor as well as that long ac line but it can be done with all that stuff still on car.

Here are a couple pics for you guys...

You mean the engine bay itself i assume? Yes that's what it looked like when i took it out, the most dirty part of the whole engine bay was deefinitly the k-member and steering rack from oil driping when changing the oil filter.

So here the plan for the rebiuld,

9.5:1 diamond forged pistons and wrist pins
        Total Seal moly rings
L32 Forged powdered metal connecting rods
        Stock crank polished
Clevite main, rod, and cam bearings
        Balance shaft delete
        Double roller timing chain
        Comp OE lifters
Yella Terra rockers and pushrod package

Also pondering Stepping up to the GT2 cam as long as its all out
I figure i will stick with stock compression so i can boost a bit or continue to spary the car in case i run out of money for the turbo kit i have been putting toghether.

If anybody has any suggestions for me feel free to offer them.
        Thanks guys.

I was talking about the engine on the ground. Also don't do OE-R lifter, go with comp cams OE ones. I did the OE-Rs and regret it, so loud

Oh my bad i didn't realize you were talking bout the shortblock. I always tried to keep it clean because it always sucks to work on somthing thats coated in crap. Is there any other downside to the OE-R's besides the noise i.e. poor performance? How loud are we talking anyway?

performance wise no, they are ment for higher rpm applications. Just annoying hearing them while cruising around and idling. You can definitely hear them in the cab of the car. With your build they would be overkill, go compcams OE

Sounds good. I hated being able to hear the one collapsed lifter that i have right now, I can only imagine how annoyed I would be with all eight sounding that way.

Theres 12, but we know what you mean. I would recommend zz's oil pressure kit as long as you have the filter adapter off. They also have a milled oil pump cover if you need one. Are you going with the 1.7 rockers? I noticed you opted for the double roller; which valve springs are you going with? Do you have any head work planned?

Ha ha ha my bad 12... I have the oil kit sitting on my work bench, just waiting to put it on. Gotta get the oil get my oil ppump cover plate milled, can do thaqt at work. Not sure about the 1.7 with the GT1 or GT2 cam because of the lift, probobly just the 1.6. The heads already have a 3 angle valve job, valve pocket ported, back cut valves and #105 springs.

The 1.7's wont generate a significant increase in lift. You are adding stiffer valve springs which will increase deflection. I would go with a cometic steel head gasket since u are boosting/spraying. Most guys go with a slightly thinner gasket depending on how much is taken off during decking of the heads and block. This should be well within range of what the lifters can compensate for. You also might want to smooth out and put a beveled edge on the oil drain holes in the corner of the heads to promote oil drainage. I have noticed slight pooling of oil on my heads. Next time I have my heads off I will try to do so on mine. If you havent pulled your lifters yet; let me know if oiling holes are facing the front or the rear. I dont think it makes a difference, but I have run them both ways. Im just curious. Good luck.

I am using the Felpro Permatourqes along with ARP headstuds. I will let you know as soon as i pull them out, just need a bit of motivation to get back out there.

                            Re: My rebuild thread

I would stay with a .062 or .065 head gasket if your boosting MLS is very good, plus it will give more clearance for the 1.7 rockers , but our stock rockers are pretty close to 1.7 so it should go together nice. I also have Comp OER's they do make some noise I thought one was bad but oil PSI and everything on my scanner shows good. So when I rip back into mine I have Comp OEM's going in with so COMP .105 pushrods and upgraded heads with 130LB springs and a double roller. I also bought a oil PSI kit and machined oil pump cover. The 9:5.1 Diamond Pistons with the Total seal piston rings are a great choice with L32 rods, mines held up about 7 years now. I'll wait to see how long my car will last without any problems with my VS cam and GT35R turbo with 10-12 PSI. So I have just collected parts so it can be rebuilt when something blows.LOL

The tools over on FTV6 think Diamond pistons are junk but the fastest people are running them as I pointed out to them and just got kick out of the thread because I'm not in there click over there, I think the people didn't know how to install them right or had KR and blew them up and blammed it on the pistons since it happened back to back on so many people. The fastest people that run them , N2oEqip current quickest, Viper, and Linx who will probably run in the 10's when he goes to the track with his monster setup. Good luck on your install.
