Re: engine wont turn
^Well, you're right on that one. That wouldonly happen if he strokedit, and even then, the piston would hit the head before it hit the plug. My guess is the aforementioned broken valve, or perhaps you dropped a socket, nut or bolt, or some other object into the head intake runners.
Degreeing a cam is important, however, I don't believe that an improperly timed cam led to this. If his valves were kissing the piston, he's know it right after he started his car up. The fact that is ran for a few minutes tells me there was enough clearance.
But untill you get the head off (hint hint), we'll never be able to tell.

Re: engine wont turn
NEVER heard of the cam causing the valve to hit the piston.
bad bird.
DID YOU CHECK THE VALVES ON YOUR HEAD? (if there damaged then the piston HIT them)
just rule out the valves hiting the piston.
what ever happend. happened because the piston HEAD went too far up into the combustion chamber.
(if the problem were the vavles. THEN the spark plug would not have recieved damage.)
anyways. bad bird. get some pictures for peat sakes.

higher lift cams can and will cause a piston to hit a valve, which is why engine builders will put clay on the piston and check the thickness of the clay after they turn the engine over to check the valve clearance
whatever happened has NOTHING TO DO WITH TE PISTON COMING TO FAR UP
im not trying to be rude, but i can tell your knowledge of engines is severely lacking, and i suggest unless you absolutely know you are correct, to not post things like this again, it is impossible for a cam change to somehow magically make the piston come up more into the cylinder
how would the spark plug not get damage if his piston hit a valve? come on now, think for just one second.. if a piston hits a valve there is going to be damage, something can and will break, whatever broke inside of the cylinder most likely was bouncing around in there and crushed the plug
there are only a few rational explanations for what happened, none of which have anything to do with the ONE cylinder all of a sudden getting a bigger stroke

You are right.
but like i said.
i had never heard up it happening to a 3800.
i mean/ yes I KNOW a MASSIVE cam will do it.
but if he just put a mild street cam in it. than i DONT understand how that could happen. OR how it wouldnt turn over AT all. after 1 rotation. (but when he took the spark plug out. it spun great.
if thecam really is his problem then yes.
ssms is CORRECT.
and if its too big/.
then damn. NEVER heard of someone putting a CAM IN THAT BIG without doing further research to see what else you have to do. (sounds like big bird made a whoops)

Re: engine wont turn
Mine was at the compression point and it took my whole strength to move it. then it was fine. then compression again. Anyway, my engine ran the other day and just shut off. I turned it a couple of times and then did a few checks and now I'm pulling off the oil pan. Just gotta get a few things out of the way. When I had the motor apart the pistons looked beautiful and the cylinder walls for how many miles were on it.
I'm blaming rod bearings on mine. But your's my friend...I know alot about engines, but I've never ran into this, so it wouldn't be my department to put any advice into. :)
