  • Engine Stalling after rebuild.

I rebuilt my motor back in march because i was losing water and it wasn't leaking which i found out was bad intake gasket. I went ahead and replaced the head gaskets while i was halfway there. I put everything back in order only thing i did was clean the carbon build of off the cylinder heads so i turned the motor by a wrence to get tdc on each cylinder to get a good clean. Now the motor is back together and for a month only problem i had was check engine light for front passenger 02 sensor (cant figure it out replaced sensor twice and not losing power, gas or misfire). Car runs better eigth miles and just runs so much smoother but sometimes when i hit high rpms the motor would shut off and it stopped and now it does it randomly once a week.

Now last week coming home from the car show i was sitting in traffic and everytime i decelerated or took the car out of gear and it would drop high rpms it will stall almost like the idle solenoid isnt doing its job guy at pepboys told me could me cam or crank pos sensor... anyone else had these problems after rebuild on 3.8 series 2? I need to fix this problem because this engine shut off without notice is going to get me killed doing like 60 on back roads and motor shuts off and steering wheel will lock up only took once to need a new pair of pants.

I would start with a case relearn. There is a sticky in the how-to section on it.

well i was looking in motor bay and i had motor running i noticed that the evap cannister that runs to the headers has a leak because i installed the pacesetter headers and i put form a gasket and now i guess its blown out do you think the evap could be pulling in clean air or not getting enough recirculation from headers causing problems? also isnt the throttle body supposed to stay a bit cool, i put my hand when the air neck comes in and that far out and it will burn my hand.

The egr recirculates the exhaust gas, not the evap.

Check for vacuum leaks. Also check your battery cables
and make sure they are tight.

I would trace the wiring for the problematic o2 sensor and
        see if anything shows itself.

*edit* I'd also try swapping in another maf sensor if you
        have one.

The heat on the TB is normal; aluminum transfers heat very quickly. That EGR leak can cause it to idle funny. I dont know about probs in the high rpms though. I have heard of some guys having trouble finding an egr gasket replacement. I used some super hi-temp rtv sealant on mine. Just let it cool down before you start working on it, and let the sealant cure before you fire it up.

Maybe a fuel injector is clogged or is starting to go bad.

The problem with the egr hose to the headers is on a much different angle than the stock and considering only one side bolts, its hard to explain but it leaves a big gap at the top goin to have to take apart tap a thread on the headers and buy a bolt right now i have a straight bolt with a nut on it and its not drawing tight enough.

The high rpm motor cutoff isn't as bad as the low rpm cutoff. Battery is fine with connection and tight. The high rpm cutoff did it everytime i went over 4500 for like three days straight...(was not like a clogged cat already had that problem it would just shut off motor and all gauge lights would come up) then it did it occasionally afterwords. Two days ago when the low rpms started every time i took out of gear or came to a stop light it will shut motor off. Then i got on interstate never went to idle for bout an hour got off exit it stopped i figured bad gas, started up on my way home today again but not as bad as first symptom just like the high rpms... i just checked all the vacuum hoses nothing missing or cut so next resort is get a used idle solenoid and map and maf try replacing one at a time see if problems persist. If they do persist think its time to invest in my ls1 lol.
