Re: My car makes this noise now. Yay.

    Here's how it went today..

I was taking the header bolts out, got what I could from the top. Jacked the car up to get underneath and as I was goin under there I saw this puddle... I was like.. wtf.. PB blaster? But PB blaster isn't green.......... Fuggin coolant. Weird right? After freaking out searching for wtf the leak was, i found it. I apparently leaned on the top heater line a lil too much. Didn't crack it, just squeaked a lil out.

So i got the header off as much as I could.. my Y pipe didn't want to let it off too much but, I found my problem. Better move this to the exhaust section! A tiny lil leak from the 2nd cylinder pointing basically up and forward. No wonder why it sounded so loud as I listened around that area. I'm so damn relieved. Put a bit of copper rtv around the gasket and reinstalled it. It even says on the tube "not recommended for header gaskets" F that. We'll see how it goes. And taking that header off isn't too hard so if it goes again, i'll have some proper sealant on there in 1/2 an hour. And some new bolts.

I'm letting it sit over night, so we'll see tomorrow. But the relief is amazing. I even took some pics I'll post up later.

Good to hear, I use the spray copper sealant on my gaskets works very well. Spray them both sides and let them sit about 15 min. and slide them in if using felpro since you can leave 2 bolts in so they can slide in and sit then just install the bolts.

The tick remains. F this. I quit.
I'm curious if i'm getting paranoid of normal valvetrain BS since the breather is on that side. I dunno... I just don't know. I think it's time for new heads and cam. Someone gimme 2k.

Just make sure you have no KR and your A/F is good , its probably injectors or could be lifter or something simple since you changed your exhaust around, also look into the restrictor for the turbo and heavier oil maybe if its hot enough there.

A long time ago I had this problem with my '89.

I removed the valve cover and let it run and watch the rockers do there thing. I was able to pin point the problem to a bad spring. The stetescope helped a lot too.

I put 10W40 valvoline max life in it. Oil pressure is 60 anywhere above 1,300rpm.

I'm just gonna run it this way for the rest of the summer, it's not loud.. can't hear it until you open the hood. But I'm gonna be doing heads and cam and all that fun stuff so it's gonna get changed out next year.

Good to hear your oil PSI is good. If you can't hear it without the hood open its not too much of a problem then, mine has alot of noise when the hood it open but with COMP- OER lifters they make a little noise, so aslong as the oil PSI is good and no KR and A/F is good I'm not going to worry about it. Mine I can hear outside the car alittle, but runs real strong.

Yeah, AFR's are good under higher throttle.. I'm still having a problem with my wideband accuracy. I believe it's because it's too far downstream. It's gotta be. last time I scanned I got like .11* of KR under WOT. That's after changing to NGK Tr6's at a .035 gap from autolite 103s with the same gap. They eliminated like ~1 degree of KR which was almost all that I was getting. All the old plugs looked excellent when I took them out too.

I'm finally gonna see what I've accomplished with this car next friday when I go to the track. With my current boost of about 7 after the intercooler and my open 3.08 gears I'm expecting a mid 13 run. We'll see.
