  • Is my block no good?

I am doing my head gasket replacement and I finally get off the passenger side head off and my excitement quickly turns to worry.

If you are looking at the motor from the passenger side fender and rub your hand along the bottom of where the head meets the block, there are two areas that are kind of warped upwards. Would my block have to be machined? Would it be worth it to just swap in a new block? or could it be just as easy to swap in an lt1 or ls1?

    97 3.8 a4 firebird. Thanks.

Posted regular picture then a picture of the spots circled.

Should my pistons look like that? I'm thinking of just getting a new engine anyway. This has 145xxx miles on it. I found an L26 motor for 675 shipped to my door... What do you think...

I would just get a N/A L26 block and use the heads off it and just transfer your oil pan and oil filter housing to the L26 block. You will have a stronger block and better flowing heads(L26 has bigger exhaust side and L32 rods which are stronger). Around here they go for about $400 for the whole block with 9,000 miles on them. Would be like a new motor.

Wow, thats pretty good. Could I use my wiring harness for it or would I have to get a matching one?

Also, I have pacesetter headers and an EXTEME NA Stage 1 Cam, would those work with it?

you should be able to transfer your over depending if you use your old intake and what not.
