What better time to repaint an engine bay than with the engine out of the way...
I'm still debating on color sanding. What do you guys think? I read schlotzy's spray can guide before doing this, and Tom's advice to use the tin foil worked out great. thanks guys

Could just be the picture but did you use cheap paint? The pigment in cheaper black paints usually aren't as dark as nicer ones. Regardless, definitely look good, and glad I could help.
I used 2 coats of rustoleum sandable primer, sanded it to 600 grit then put 3 coats of rustoleum engine enamel on top of it. It looks like more of a jet black color in the other pics and in real life, I just used this pic because it shows the original color of the car. The transmission tunnel looks dull because I used undercoating on top of the paint there.
So do you think it's worth color sanding and polishing to get that bay to really shine or is it pointless for an engine bay?

If you're up for keeping it clean then go for it, but if you don't feel like cleaning it pretty often then I'd just say leave it as is bc as is looks pretty darn good...
IMO... the engine bay doesn't have to be perfect since you want the attention to be drawn to the engine itself anyway... you just don't want a messy bay to draw the eyes away from the engine...
Looks good

I agree. The shinier it is, the more work it will be to keep it looking good. So it's ultimately up to you.
