  • 17/18 C5 wheel combo OPINIONS...

Hi, I recently purchased a set of 4 17" C5 wheels, polished. Today I found a set of C5 wheels that are 17" fronts w/ 18" rears non polished. Anyways, with overall performance my primary goal and appearance second which is the best set to run?

Anyone rockin' the 17/18 combo? How do you like it?

My car is not lowered and is a 'vert FYI.

    Thanks.

performance wise, go with the lightest wheel combo.
17/18 looks good, but you just bought new wheels, why switch again?

This 2nd set is really cheap and has better rubber. One of those instances of not looking/needing for something and it becomes available to you. Whats a gear head to do?

I have 17/18. Would much rather have 17/17 but it wasn't the deal I came across. Given the choice though, I would stay away from 18s.

I would run the 17's and forget the 18's.

What's wrong with running the 18's?

Thanks for the help guys. I should also mention that the roads in my area are rough. Is it safe to assume that the 18" rears would be ill suited for this? I do not want a stiff jarring ride.

Hey schlotzky, please tell me why you don't like your 17/18 combo?

You usually have to remove the bump stops to get them to fit without rubbing, and you cant rotate your tires. Not to mention it can be a more expensive size tire to replace depending on what you want to run.

I have the 17/18 c6 combo and I would rather have 17's all around now. The 18" wheels are heavy (I think close to 60lbs each with tires, don't quote me on that though haha), and they seemed to slow my car down a little. My car is also a 'vert if that even matters as far as wheels go.
On the other hand, they do give the car a mean stance. Also, I didn't have to remove the bump stops to keep them from rubbing.

So, the consensus appears to be keeping the 17" wheels. Any other 17/18 owners care to chime in?

Yeah, what everyone else said. The more rubber, the better the ride, and on crappy roads, the less likely you are to dent/bend a wheel and/or screw up your tire when going over a big pothole or something like that. It's not going to be an especially jarring ride with 18s only in the back as most of the ride quality comes from up front, but it's noticeable. Not being able to rotate them and the price are big too.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate that I can ask a question and it gets informative answers and quickly. That is cool...

I will save my cash and stick with the 17s I already have. I really wanted to buy the other set but your valued opinions prevail. I save money and a 200 mile round trip.

If anyone in the Chicago area wants a decent C5 17/18 set with great rubber, PM me and I will put you in touch with the seller.
