Agreed. I've noticed from the day I bought the car that when the windows roll all the way down, the panel bulges a little. I'm sure that doesn't help either.
Well I'm pretty disappointed. I took the panel off and removed the staples and all that and tried to epoxy the crack back together. Even using a piece of metal behind it, the repair just won't hold. I think I'll be saving for a new panel. Knowing that crack is there, and looking at it each time I get into the car, is going to drive me nuts. I'll just make sure to do the mod on the new panel so this does not happen again. Tomorrow I'll be taking the passenger side panel off to do the mod before it cracks. I see the reason for the cracking, too. It's not only the stress of the window felt as explained in the High Performance Pontiac article, but there is also a molded, 90 degee cutout right there. It's definitely a weak spot. I'll post pics sometime soon, it's too late in the evening right now. Getting the panel off was pretty easy, except for the locking mechanism. I also could not figure out how to detach the switches, so I had to leave the panel right there with the car. If anyone knows how to get the switches out please let me know. I'll need this info someday when I get a new panel.
Yikes, it looks like a new trim panel from GM Parts Direct is $568. This sucks
I would only use this as a last resort, but since you're planning on getting replacement panels, you might try giving this a shot. Try using a little heat from a pen torch to soften up the plastic and allow it to somewhat "mend" itself around the crack. I've seen people do this for scratches and cuts in the plastic, but not sure how effective it would be with an actual crack.
Just enough to allow the plastic to melt a little and still retain that textured surface, but not enough to burn through or cause any shiny spots.

gonna bump this. How the hell did you guys get those staples out. I can not even budge them at all. Theres no room to reaklky get a flat head in and start wedging them out or bending the folded ends straight
Well one thing GM did was put those damn staples in well. I just got creative and got them all out except for two, my door was cracked all the way down, gonna need to down some serious repairs tomorrow.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
