  • Is anyone rolling on steel rims?

Just curious if anyone here is rolling on steel rims with or without wheel covers? I have been searching for a set to put on my '00 Camaro in order to dress it down.

    Thanks, Joe

Not a fan of the chrome 5-points? Those are one of the best looking stock wheels IMO.
Some guys run them for winter wheels but generally don't post too many pictures.

I've seen a couple on CL for sale, never seen them on a 4th gen though. Im gonna say the combo would look hideous.

Not really, the chrome was too flashy for my taste and two weeks after I bought the car, one of the rims developed a pin hole on the inside due to rust. I put a bead weld on the pin hole and it cracked further. Rather than replacing that rim, I purchased a clean set of snowflakes from a seller on Craigslist and had my new tires mounted on them. I believe 2000 was the only year that the 5 stars and snowflakes were both options and wanted to make my 2000 look more modern.

I get mixed reviews on the steel rim idea. If I can locate a set for sale, I would like to have them powder coated black, drop the car about an inch and roll on those.

Steel wheels really make the car look like crap. There are plenty of aftermarket options out there, or just have the snowflakes powdercoated black or gunmetal.

although i respect your thoughts of what you want to do with your car, putting it on steels will make it look horrible. Wheels can make a car go from looking like a total junker, to an awesome looking car.

Lol, thanks for the reviews. I can understand why everyone would think the steel rims would look horrible. If I could find pictures of a black 4th gen rolling on steel rims it might sway me away from the idea.

I had polished black 17x9.5 Z06 rims on my previous Z28. They were great looking rims. I sold them along with the car in 2008. With the 2000, the only money I want to sink into the car is a few performance mods that will help increase the fuel mileage. I may just keep the snowflakes.

good choice, there is no reason to downgrade the car

I could be wrong, but I don't think 5th gen wheels share the same pattern as ours. Even if they do, those base model 19" rims are going to look ridiculous on a 4th gen.
