I found a relatively cheap ss hood on ebay made by AIT. Does anyone know about the quality of this brand?

Give us a link or picture...

AIT racing is a fairly reputable company... if it's a good price, my guess is you'd happy with it. Is the SS hood you're looking at functional? I know they make one that's functional, not sure if they make some that aren't...

Yeah its functional, I don't know how to post the link. I don't have a computer. Just go to ebay, and type in "97 camaro ss hood" its the only AIT hood on there that's black.

You can't make a Camaro SS hood functional on a V6 the air filter won't fit , the Firebirds can make a functional hood, I just made mine so air flows in a cools the engine more and installed a Billet grill for it.

Yeah, I understand that. I have an slp cai anyway so it wouldn't matter if it was functional or not. When you did that did you just cut the scoop out? This one has 2 little scoops at the front of the hood by the latch that pull the air throuch the hood and to the intake (of a v8). If I could post pics with my phone you would see what I'm talking about.

Ok, I bought this hood. Now my question is, should I get hood pins now? I've heard about fibreglass hoods cracking by the latch, and if I spent almost $500 on this thing the last thing I want it to do is crack.

fwiw, when I go with an aftermarket hood, I'll be getting pins...even though I really don't think a car should have them unless they have the power to back it up...I rather not loose my hood on the highway.

just get the most discrete flush mounted ones you can find. they have key lock type ones...

                Re: AIT SS hood

I doubt that you would have a problem with an AIT hood... if you were getting some garage made hood from a no-name company on eBay I would suggest getting them, but if you don't get em, you'll probably be fine,

but nothing's better than peace of mind, so if you think you'll be constantly worrying about it, then go for it

I beg to differ. The SS hood has ducting that meets right up to the intake vent that was there from the factory. I know someone who bought an ss hood for his v6 and it works perfect. The only problem is if you run the SLP CAI, all you would have to do it take out the seal in front of the air lid.

                    Re: AIT SS hood

Yeah but I have a 97 camaro. The SLP intake goes down below the front of the car in front of the driver front wheel. And I have an angeled upper intake and if I changed it id be wasting wasting my money.
