  • Removing the grille..?? I'm over it.

I spent the weekend working on my black '00 Camaro. I managed to replace the O2 sensors sucessfully and reset the computer. I filled up the tank and dumped in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Now I just have to wait and see if my fuel milage will increase from 22-23 to 27+ MPG. I can only pray. Afterall, my weekly driving is 95% highway.

After the mechanical work was complete, I gave the car a full detail. Wash, Mothers clay bar, wax, steam cleaned the carpet and seats.. yada yada yada.

I like the look of the '98-02 Camaro without the plastic grille so I researched a few old threads on the message board and everyones reponse for removing the grille was to simply "rip it off". I have been waiting for over a month to find the time to do this and work on the car in general. Well, I tried doing that and it was stuck by two plastic screws at the top middle part of the bumper cover. I hesitated to remove them and after much pondering I gave up. I popped the grille back into the place and screwed the factory license plate bracket back into it. I recently moved from Indiana to Ohio and have yet to switch my plates. Ohio is a 2 plate state, so I guess I'll need to keep it anyway.

it's frustrating yes, but not impossible. i used a pair of needle nose pliers to wedge out the plastic screws and just the right amount of force to pull and it really does just "rip out". give it another go and be patient, it will come out.

I've never had a front license plate and I've had my Camaro since 2002... even been pulled over and never had any problems... might be different now with all the damn cameras being installed, though...

Mine was easy: run into 5 trees. It ripped it right out:eek:.

Need pics of the detailed car.

When I took mine off those screws toward the middle were definitely a pain. After struggling with it for a while I finally got ballsy and just ripped it out (I got pissed and said f*** it). I'm glad that I never had any intention of putting the grill back on because it was pretty well destroyed when I got done with it. I like the look of the front end without the grill a lot better.
