  • Question about tint and T-Tops

I am making an appointment to have my windows tinted at a local tint shop.

My first question is.. what is the factory % tint on the back window of most mini-van's and SUV's? That is about as dark as I would like to go on the rear and side windows.

My second question is.. Can the T-Tops be tinted to where they won't allow much sun light to filter through? If possible, I would like to black them out.

    Thanks again for any help.

Re: Question about tint and T-Tops

i have no idea, but the stock tint is really dark.

i put 35% on and the cops meter said my tint was around 23%

some people actually think i have a really light tint n my windows. they were fairly dark, i would say they may have been a tad bit darker than an suv, but pretty close.

im sure the t tops can be tinted, but im sure someone else who has them will know

ttops can be as dark as you want them to be. they dont obstruct your view or an officers view of seeing you.

I believe the minivans and SUVs are about 20% factory. I would go with 5% on the back and t-tops, it's what I have along with 35% on the sides and it's great, although I'd love to have gone a little darker on the sides. Or you could just spray paint your t-tops. That wouldn't let any light in.

your ttops are already treated, if you put tint on them, their most likely gunna shatter

I've had mine tinted with 5% for over a year, the car (unfortunately) is never garaged and they're fine.

theres no way a t top will shatter if tint is installed on it, they are made to take impacts like car wrecks, applying a thin film of tint wont do any harm, the worst it could do is heat up a bit more since it is a darker color

                    Wha--what?

Factory tint is ~20%, which is about what the T-Tops are from the factory. I think it's an excellent choice for tint, but it's illegal in a fair amount of places. I have 35% on both my cars except I put 20% on the rear of the Buick which I like the best. Remember that any tint installed on the t-tops will be in addition to the stock treatment, so a 20% tint would be 20% of 20%, so less than 5% total light transmitted. Personally, I say if you want no light to go through your tops, get some t-top shades. I love the t-tops at night, and love the experience of driving around with glass in all angles.

Sorry, I would never paint my t-tops or anything interior for that matter. Looks kinda "ricer" IMO. When I set out to buy another Camaro, I didn't want t-tops to begin with but ended up buying a car that had them. I found t-top shades on ebaymotors but they run about $40-60 for a set and I could get the t-tops tinted cheaper. I hope that the film would not crack on me seeing as how it is tint over tint.

                      Hmmmm...

                        I'd just get shades.

ok little ones calm down. The comment I made about painting t-tops is NOT RICER (so stop using that term). I've seen it done by several people (including older people) they paint them black to black thme out. Not ricer at all, just a fully functional way to completely black out t-tops.

So before you call somthing ricer, or say please dont do it, maybe think about it and do a little research, before you try acting cool and actually in return make yourself look like a immature 16 year old

                            thank you and good day

You could make some T-Top shades out of sheet plastic or cardboard and fabric if you want something cheaper. Just cut out a template, wouldn't be too hard.
