  • 97+ cluster upgrade?

I searched but couldnt find what I'm looking for... But, Can I upgrade from the old style cluster to the 97+ digital style cluster?

I got glow gauges but they only work for 97+ models and not pre 97's. I'm trying to match up my gauges and everything to my blue headunit.

V6 120 MPH cluster that is, not the common v8 cluster swap.
Are they a direct swap? Will everything work right on my '96?

    Thanks in advance! :)

Well... I hope they work cause I just bought a cluster out of a '98 v6 bird. :poke:

my 97 came with the old style odometer. when it went the way of the ghost i picked on up out of a 99 that worked perfectly. you shouldnt have any problems

I'm not certain, but I remember hearing that a few of the first built '97 models came with the "old style" guages and then were immediately upgraded to digital.

Works for me. Yay me, I made a sticky worthy thread. :D

EDIT: I'll be getting my cluster in wednesday so when I get it installed and done, make sure everything works properly I'll be updating this thread for others who may wanna convert from the old style to newer style. :)

And as usaul, nothing I mod works out as easy as it should be.

Got it via ups today and theres no trip for the odometer... GRR.

Ok so I put my glow gauges on and get it hooked up, needles/gauges dont work properly because the overlay was binding them up, DOUBLE GRR.

Sending everything back and just gonna get my $ back. Too much trouble.

yep, ive got one of the first 97's to roll off the ol assembly line. still have the original cluster, i didnt want to replace it. but it stopped rolling the miles over. just a steady click, click, click as the odometer tried to turn

So you can't upgrade pre-97 to 97+ clusters on Firebirds. Good to know, but probably not sticky worthy.

No no, The gauges worked but after I put in the glow gauges the needles didnt work properly. I may have messed up the cluster.

Plus the cluster I got was missing the tripometer button and the needles were floppy so I'm sure the cluster was screwed up.

                      So It's still not certain.

I thought you meant the digital display wasn't working?

Still, uncertain is not worth a sticky.

The needles werent working because of the overlay gauges. Everything worked until I went to put in the overlays. They were interfering with the needles working right.
