  • RS Ground Effects Clips

For those either replacing your ground effect pieces on the rocker panels or adding them to another car. I bet you've either been pulling your hair out looking for the T shaped plastic clips, forked over $7+ a piece at the dealer or quit looking and used a secondary method.

I was in your shoes until last weekend at the Pull a Part.....no I didn't find a set on a razed RS. I did remember during my online search that a Ford clip looked very much like the one, yes one I had. A neighbor and I were in the Ford section getting some parts off a Thunderbird. Right next to it was a Ford Minivan with plastic rocker covers. One was lose so I took a look and Viola...T clips...After taking all of them off the van (they have more on one van than you need for the Camaro, we walked over to a Ranger with plastic rockers. We pulled one off and found the same clips. Seems they used them on many vehicles, unlike GM that used these only on a Camaro RS. So I paid the extortion of 50 cents a piece and went home.

They fit perfect! The slots in the rocker cover have two holes next to them for retention details. These have them and snap right into place like they belong there. Since I was adding the RS pieces to my car I had to drill the holes. The size I used was .3125 (5/16) with the spacing I measured off the RS pieces from the back wheel well.

I think they only did plastic rocker covers on the mid 90s+ Windstars, and I think it was an option. I could be wrong though.

I think you're right. The minivan was a mid 90's winstar. The other vehicle was a mid 90's Ranger 4wd. My friend works for a body shop and told me just about any of the Ford vehicles of the mid 90's up used these same clips. Go to the junkyard armed with a flat screwdriver to get the clips out without breaking the tabs off.

I put the other side on tonite and it snapped right into place, nice and tight to the body.

Hey I found them online at:
            http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Ford_Rocker_Panel_Ground_Effects_Moulding_Clip_p/a19441.htm

$10.25 for a pack of 25 (more than enough for the car) I don't know how much shipping they charge.

I need to do this cuz I took the kit off my v6 and put it on my ss, but never put clips there. It certainly isn't as tight as I'd like it. Do you have more info on how you did it? I will buy those remaining 11 off you too...

                Re: RS Ground Effects Clips

I'll try to dig up the measurements I used to drill the holes. 11 pc aren't enough to do both sides, I think you need 14. If you follow the like I posted you can get a bag of 25 pc for just under $11. I've heard you can get them on ebay for the same with free shipping. Just google the Ford part number F1TZ-7810182-A.

Could you take more close up pics of the results. By the way I love that color.

                    Re: RS Ground Effects Clips

Her are the measurements I used. Please verify with your ground effects.

From the front fender opening towards the back:
                    5 3/4"
                    13 5/8"
                    21 3/8"
                    29 3/8"
                    37 1/4"
                    45 1/8"
                    53"
                    58 5/8"

They were centered 9/16 down from the edge of the rocker at the bottom of the door. I put masking tape on and drew a straight line to keep them all in line. They were 5/16" diameter, but the clip advertisement said for a 9mm hole.

I know this is old but I think my ground effects may be different or something... I pulled my driver side off and am trying to figure this out but all you have is pics of the clips and the finished product... nothing in between...
this is what mine looks like. Are you pushing the clips through those holes in the side skirts? Please reply asap cuz I have this off my car and don't really wanna drive it like this lol

                        Re: RS Ground Effects Clips

thats not an OEM RS side skirt, it should have a slot in the middle that the clip slides in too, and then each end has a hole where the outer tabs lock in to place.

Yes it is an oem skirt. I pulled it off my old car that has the sport appearance package. It is oem. Even had the rivet tabs under them

well they must have changed somewhere after the 96-97 RS because it looks nothing like mine.
