Woke up this morning and some #$%& had busted out my back glass with a rock! I found a replacement window at the junkyard for $50 but not sure I want to tackle this myself. Has anyone had success doing this replacement on their own? The replacement I bought looks like the glass is glued into place and I'm worried I'll end up with TWO busted back glasses! Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Rear window replacement!
Call some auto glass companies and get a quote. I'd look for a complete hatch on craigslist and ebay if the insurance isn't covering it.www.fullthrottlev6.com
www.chitownracing.com

Re: Rear window replacement!
That sucks man, hate to hear that. Ive always wondered what a rear window costs due to the curve. You'll probably get a good idea of how the replacement will go in by removing whats left of the old one. Keep an eye on your car the next couple of nights if its still outside. Ive gotten hit 2 nights in a row before.

Re: Rear window replacement!
yeaa it is glued on pretty good...what the glass company did with mine wen they were installing the glass on my carbon fiber hatch was using a flat/thin metal chisel blade on a air gun around the whole glass until it gotten loose then they used a blade to go around again and that was it..(they took the glass out my old hatch) then wen installing to the new hatch they just spread sealant around where the whole glass sits and sat the glass on made sure everything was even and that was it...

Re: Rear window replacement!
If you go with a glass company, be careful who you choose. My friend Joe (oddly enough has the same name as me) had the rear window of his '99 Trans Am busted out while at the bar one night. It took the glass company he went with 3 attempts to replace it correctly.
I'd imagine it would be easier to replace the entire hatch and then paint it if you have to.

Re: Rear window replacement!
There's no way I can replace the entire hatch because I have a factory 3-stage (mystic teal) paint job. There's no way to match that up. The replacement glass I have it mounted in a silver hatch to I'll have to remove it and put it into the car. Looks like I'll have to get out the chisel and razor blades.
I'd like some advice from someone who has done this job before. Like maybe what type of glue to use to put it back once I have the old one out?2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)

Re: Rear window replacement!
1) Uh...no.
2) Why? That's WAY more expensive than what I paid!
3) I'd still have to get the old one out and the new one in. :)2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)

Re: Rear window replacement!
Long story short, I took my car to the exhaust shop where they worked on another vehicle next to mine and the slag from the welder melted my rear glass. I had some quotes done on the window and it was somewhere around $378 just for the glass plus install and molding. I went by the shop where it's being done......this is not something I would attempt. My advice is to have a reputable glass shop do the work. Plus, the trim that goes around the rear glass is nearly impossible to find.

So they burned up your glass? I hope you learned to never take ANYTHING to those losers again. Imagine if it had gotten into your paint or caught a tire on fire!2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)

It looks like getting the glass separated from the butyl is going to be the hard part! Does anyone have any ideas on how to get that stuff to break up without hurting the glass?2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)
