98-02 Throttle body Painting.

Alright,

So this is my 2000 a4 Camaro, that I decided to paint the throttle body on... You are going to need a new gasket most likely after taking yours off. I had to take mine off because im on my second throttle body..

I needed a 10mm deep socket just because you get bigger bolts with the throttle body spacer.



these are the tools i started with, the two steel brushes to polish and clean off the throttle body and socket/ rachet.



this is what my setup looks like.. i have the ZZP spacer. Which i should have painted. but its not going anywhere any time soon.. but anyways.

1.
-Take the Lid off .. Two Clips holding it down and raise it and remove however it is you have yours set up.

-Take Sensors out **GENTLY** Don't wreck/pull the wires.


2. You are going to want to take the two nuts and one bolt holding your throttle body to the Intake, or in my case just three nuts.
(two on the bottom and one on the top)

Once you got her off, its time to start polishing it so you can remove the rough surface of it and have it nice and smooth



I chose to put mine in a vice grip, just because its a bit awkward to handle on the table especially when you are going at it with an air tool..

I also realize you might not have this tool. I think maybe a steel brush or anything that can really smooth-en down the surface may suffice..



Once you are ready you can start to polish it.



there are alot of awkward spots you may not be able to get too. either find your way around it or just leave it.. I just left some little corners.

so take your time polishing it, you shouldnt be in a hurry...

once you are done/ satisfied with how you have polished it, it is time to prep it for painting..

To each their own but i choose to tape up the sensor just for the sake of protecting them.



Also decided to tape up both sides of the throttle body...

Now for paint.. i choose this paint.. just because it was what i had lying around. I did not go shopping for anything special... but feel free to do so.



Once you are ready you can start to paint it..

I chose to use two coats of paint and one coat of clear in the end... but once again to each their own.







And then once you have let it dry and such you should be ready to put her back on.

When you are ready you can install it again, You will once again probably need another gasket just because it doesnt come off nicely. I had to polish a bit off.. and You will want to use a sealant as well. some sort of rtv

yeah i kind of agree. it looks dumb until I paint my UIM and such.

just out of curiosity cuz i have throught about doing this to my 97. how do you stop the paint from coming off when the tb heats up?

Use high heat paint.

hightemp paint shouldn't really be neccessary just prep good.
