I want to do the whistler headlight method only to seal very tiny cracks on and polish the back of the lenses. My question is, Do I need to remove the weatherstrips before to take the lamps in the oven?

No you don't. Just set the entire light housing in the oven on the rack wit lenses facing upward. Bake at 150 for 20 mins and they'll come right off. Remove the clips on the lenses first.

I thought the strips were going to melt.

Well, I did it with the strips on, and didn't melt. THe lenses were piece of cake to detach. Thanks.

Yeah they wont melt. No problem. Post pics when you're all done. This is one of my favorite mods and I believe they should have come from the factory whistlere'd.

I can post pics, but I am not going to paint the lamps, I did this just to seal some tiny cracks from behind the lenses. I like more the chrome look, and I would say it reflects more light.

That's why you don't paint the reflective parts of the lights.. the disco ball parts reflect, the grooved parts don't.
