  • Plasti Dip wheels.

I was going to wait to post this after I was done but I decided to share now. Right now Im plasti dipping my wheels, as some of you know Ive been throwing around the idea of painting my stockers, I havent done it cause I was worried that If I didnt like It I would have to repaint them. Couple days ago I found a video on youtube of this Plasti Dip stuff, for those who dont know what it is, its amazing. It requires no sanding or priming, all you do is clean what ever your going to Plasti Dip and spray away, and if you dont like it, you can just peel it right off, which is what sold me. So after searching, I found that alot of people are painting wheels, trim, body parts, emblems and even laying some stripes on their cars with this stuff. I went to home depot last night after work and picked up a few cans. Im about half way done with the front wheels, then Ill be doing the back wheels. I will post pics and If anyone is Interested in doing this I will make a write up.
    Stay tuned..........

      Re: Plasti Dip wheels.

Well, all four wheels are done and the fronts are back on the car. They came out awesome. I did about 5 coats, the first 2 were very light and the second 2 were very heavy and the final was a light touch up coat. Tomorrow I will do the center caps, just ran out of daylight today. After using this stuff first hand, I highly recommend this stuff, it is just plain awesome. When its dry it has a sort of rubber feel to it and has a flat/matte finish, and the best part about it is it just peels right off, so If you dont like how it looks or if it came out bad just get an edge or make a small hole and peel away, it leaves the finish the same, no damage at all.

Heres a teaser pic, tomorrow Ill have pics of the car after I wash it. Ill let you know how it holds up to the first wash, on the can it says to allow 4 hours for it to fully cure.

Thanks dude! Its really easy, most important part is the prep cleaning. I used simple green with a scrub brush, then just went over them with glass cleaner.

Well, I bought 4 cans at 6 bucks a piece thinking I would use 1 can per wheel but I ony used 3, so about 20 bucks.

                        Re: Plasti Dip wheels.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never thought of a paint peeling off easily as a plus point to a wheel paint. Unless it's only removable as mentioned prior to fully curing.

That is exactly what made me hesitant. I was figuring with that long of a curing/handling time maybe after that time isbup it is no longer peelable.

It has a rubbery base which is why you can peel it off at anytime.

How does it stick permanently then? Seems like if you drive somewhere attrocious like a gravel road or something a rock could take it right off.
