Alright I want to hear some advanced weight reduction techniques in here...I've been searching around and am specifically looking for information regarding cutting metal on our cars to save weight...what parts of the inner door skin can we cut away that is safe to do so? (NOT the door bars, this is still a street car)...other things that are not structural integrity points that can be swiss cheesed.

There are guys out there with crash bars still intact in the sub 3000 lb category for weight...I wanna know exact areas I can cut...I thought I saw something regarding the doors awhile ago, but I can't seem to find it/pictures of where to cut.

I've already gutted the carpet sound deadning, a/c, spare, jack, etc. I'm at the cutting stage now...what can I chop up lol??

I wouldn't cut anything, just go with light weight parts like K member and A Arms.

Those bars aren't going to do much in a crash,the car might go from a 1 side impact rating to a 0.

Have you ever seen one of these things hit a pole or tree side ways? even with the door bars it better be the passenger side that hits or your kissing the world goodbye.

Didn't you just wrap the interior with leather and add sound deadner mat?

Don't strip out your street car you will hate it.

I went 13.07 at 107.5 on Monday with a DA of 2500ft and a race weight of 3700lbs

Full leather/Air/T-Roofs/17's on the front.

That pass corrects to 12.75/110.xx at sea level.

I have a nitrous kit if you want more power cheap,it even has a full bottle.

Anything that can give me half a chance to live in a crash I'll keep. To me it is not worth the gamble for a few lbs.

I just wrapped part of my interior in leather...no sound deadner, I've ripped everything I can find out.

I dont mind the stripped sound, remember, I like my car loud. I had to drive it for a little while recently with no carpet/interior...just a driver seat and dash intact. Aside from the cosmetics of it, I like it stripped.

I will be cutting out ttops soon...was supposed to pickup everything from Matt tonight...and then my mount for the phr decided it would rather snap instead. :mad: long story...I figured out why...hopefully be fixed tomorrow.


I really need to get on the scales and see what I weigh in at. I really would like to be around 2800-3000 lbs with me in it.

Steve, I already have the PA K frame and lower A arms. Qa1's were also installed, which seemed a tad lighter than the kybs I had as well.

Tom, I'll be at the track most likely early september...no nitrous for me...besides...you might need it if we line up

Haha...no I just put on some weight...Im up at about 134ish. Tony I'll definetly let you know...would love to get a solid video of the runs...plus we all gotta line up for fun.

but back to topic...guys are swiss cheesing parts and putting them back into place. No one knows what is being swiss cheesed or what parts are being trimmed?

also, that total AC delete that zzp/bmr sells (the big metal sheet that covers the hole in the engine bay....does getting rid of whatever unit is behind that mean you loose your heat as well?

I know that a plastic hatch window takes a lot of weight off.

I know of one Camaro 00 Z28 LS1 Camaro in town that wieghs 3100 and has a complete interior. Has the plastic rear window, AC, no bumper supports, no platic frairing up front, fiberglass hood, AC and heat.

For full race cars, people replace the glass with Lexan (a type of polycarbonate plastic) It weighs about 75% less than glass of the same size. A quick search through google didn't turn up any preformed for our cars though so it would take some digging probably.

Also, being plastic they tend to scratchup over time, so street car use is probably not a great idea

Think of it as plexi-glass only stronger

I've seen the lexan for both front and rear of our cars...I plan on replacing just the rear maybe next year, I think it saves a good 30lbs or so...

I'm leaning towards freebie stuff that is along the lines of more advanced weight redux...cutting out a few lbs here, few lbs there...
