I was some new rims for my 97 camaro. I plan on taking it autocrossing and road course racing. I know the stock rims are 16" x 8" and I wanted to get 17s or 18s so I could get some decent gripping rubber for them. just wondering what anyone would recommend for racing.

that nice but what rims are gonna stand up to the riggers of racing? I've heard about rims warping under the pressure of racing and want rims that won't do that.

That would be kind of cool to see. I wouldnt worry about warping a wheel due to heat. I would be more concerned with the weight of the wheel and what size tire I was wanting to put on it. Its hard to find any info on how airflow to the brakes is affected by the wheel. If you want the same size all the way around the 275/40R17 is pretty common. If you want a staggered look like 17" in front and 18" in back for example there are tons size combinations. In that case you will want to look at overall diameters especially on the rear tires because it will affect your gearing.

Just find a set of factory 17's that are even in a little rough condition as your going to be seeing lots of brake dust and other nasty ****.

Paint them black as keeping them clean will be impossible.

they weren't warping from heat but from stress of taking the full weight of the car in the corners. but I will look into that tire size.

The only time ive ever seen a warped wheel was after they hit something

Back a few years ago a company that I worked for sold Cragar brand rims.

I went through at least 16 rims to get 4 straight ones for a customers 68 Firebird.

The rest were all warped/bent right from the factory.
