  • Hatch Struts Replaced

Anyone else do this and have a super hard time with the bolts holding the struts to the body of the car? The T50 torx bit was stripping them and they were in there super tight. I put some anti-seize on them and they're much better now. What a PITA.

On the plus side, the hatch will no longer close on my head. Success!

Yeah I had trouble few years ago with them, stripped the passenger side.

Never changed them out on the Camaro but my Jeep had a ton of issues with torx bits and that sort of thing.

If you have a heat gun you can apply heat to them to work that thread locker on the bolts. As long as you don't go right up to the paint you won't damage anything like a torch would, but it can help with those pesky bolts.

I ended up using a pair of vice grips to grab the outside head on the bolt and slowly unscrew them. They're hidden by trim so it's not like anyone is going to see the maiming. Like I said though, the anti-seize made all the difference going back in. I just thought maybe I was somehow sucking at another simple task and wanted confirmation. Lol.

I want to start on a few more items on the Camaro but I woke up to snow today, so they will probably be put on hold until at least tomorrow.

Good you got it! Ya the snow kind of hampered my plans as well...
