  • who is the stripe guru in N.E.?

So I live on an island and nobody local wants to attempt the application of the camarographics.com 35th anniv. stripes. I am trying Providence and Fall River MA next, but will travel. Called Jay and left a "Help!" message. Anyone here can recommend a shop (would have to be a one-day affair)? Thanks ~ rhody

I live in Philly, but I seriously doubt that you want to drive here just to get your stripes installed...right?
Try it yourself. I didn't think I was capable of installing them until I tried it. My stripes came out awesome!

You guys are good. Just checked your ride (muy bueno). Glad to hear it worked but I screwed up a simple windshield visor decal last time I tried. Between the stripes and the side flags I feel the dread of impending DOOM... DOOM I SAY!!
Actually, your guy quoted $150 - that is an acceptable rate for $300 worth of vinyl. But since you went for it (successfully) I can understand how you would encourage others. If you go back to your post from last March and see Crashtest's response - I can only add "Yeah - what he said". :) Thanks for the reply ~ rhodey

Yeah man, we installed a set on my buddy's '01 WS6, easy as cake if you have the application fluid. 8 oz of water, 8 oz of rubbing alcohol, and 5 drops of dish liquid, in a spray bottle. Spray the car and the back of the vinyl if you can. The first important part is finding your center so you're stripes are evenly spaced apart. Use masking tape to tape the stripe to the car with the backing on the car and the graphic side up, placing the tape on the vinyl when you've got them centered. Then use a razor blade to cut the tape so the vinyl isn't attached to the hood anymore. Then peel the backign off the vinyl (leaving the masking tape that you just cut on the top) and spray the car and vinyl with the fluid. Then line up the tape that's still on the hood and graphic and they're centered again. Let it set for 2-3 minutes, then gently dab the bubbles out with a soft rag. After the graphics start to stick better you can squeegie the fluid and bubbles the rest of the way out, maybe use a hair dryer if you need to. It's really pretty easy, if you have some good directions. There's prolly better explainations somehwere on this board.

Hi Chris - Jay (3rdgen) gave me the URL to his online instructions and they are about identical to what you said. His was 2/3 H2O 1/3 alc. He called me last night - great guy - told me I was barking up the wrong trees. Instead of body and detail shops he said go directly to the sign shops. Better prices and buku more experience. I may go for it though since he will do partial reprints for existing orders if necessary. Your stripes are unique, not too many done straight that terminate on the fascia. Looks good with the new wheels. ~ rhodey

Thanks man, but mine are painted on. My buddy's WS6 has the stripes from 3rdgen.

It's a very compex design, and still went relatively smooth. I pretty much gave you the same directions we followed a year or so ago. It is pretty easy, only problem we had was the pin strip that comes down along the side of the larger stripe. I accidentally stretched it, so we just trimmed it off.

Other than that....go for it man. And use Jay's Mixture instructions, it may help evaporate quicker.
Also... be GENTLE when squeegie-ing. Follow hockeymans tips in his thread, they'll help some.
